Spontaneous rupture of the inferior vena cava (IVC) in the setting of IVC filter thrombosis: case report
We report a case of a spontaneous IVC rupture associated with IVC filter thrombosis in a patient presenting with severe atraumatic back pain. Computed tomography (CT) identified a retroperitoneal hematoma and suggested IVC thrombosis. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging confirmed the presence of IVC filter thrombosis and demonstrated a large defect in the infrarenal IVC, with the vessel lumen in free communication with the adjacent hematoma. The patient was managed conservatively and discharged in stable condition. MR imaging played an important role in characterizing the CT findings, which were unclear. (Source: Journal of Ra...

Spigelian Hernia Including the Urinary Bladder: A Rare Potential Cause of Surgical Complication
Spigelian hernia is a rare type of anterior abdominal wall hernia. While it is itself very rare, seeing urinary bladder in this hernia is even rarer. Here, in this case, we specifically illustrate a rare case of Spigelian hernia including the urinary bladder, diagnosed with computerized tomography. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Wisdom Tooth's Revenge: Retropharyngeal Abscess and Mediastinitis after Molar Tooth Extraction
Retropharyngeal abscess is potentially associated with high morbidity and mortality as a result of its direct anatomical connection with the mediastinum. Therefore, knowledge of the relevant anatomy is essential for recognizing the presence and extent of disease in a timely manner. In this case report, we aim to review the pertinent anatomy and patterns of spread of infection from a full blown deep neck space infection to result in mediastinitis and empyema. Trans-Radial Embolization of Bleeding Renal Angiomyolipoma in Pregnant 30-Year-Old Female - A Case Report
We report the use of trans-radial arterial access to embolize a large bleeding angiomyolipoma in a 30-year-old pregnant patient presenting in the first trimester. Trans-radial approach was chosen to minimize the effects of radiation on the fetus. Subsequent postprocedural pregnancy course was uneventful with stability of the angiomyolipoma and no further hemorrhage. This case highlights the benefits of trans-radial embolotherapy in gravid patients to reduce the risk of radiation exposure to the fetus. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Complementary role of cardiac computed tomography angiography in the diagnosis of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis and septic coronary embolism - a case report
A 73-year old man presented with a posterolateral ST-elevated myocardial infarction 9 months after biological aortic valve replacement for aortic valve stenosis. Invasive coronary angiography showed a filling defect across the left main coronary artery bifurcation extending into the left anterior descending artery and the ramus circumflex. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a thickened prosthesis leaflet with signs of slight stenosis. Cardiac computed tomography angiography showed a mass on the left coronary cusp of the valve prosthesis, suggestive for vegetation or thrombus. The scan also revealed central luminal fil...

Primary Angiosarcoma Of the Breast: A Case Report
We report a case of a 32-year-old female with primary angiosarcoma of the breast presenting with non-specific imaging features. It was initially interpreted as a capillary cavernous hemangioma at histopathology following an ultrasound-guided biopsy. This eventually turned out to be angiosarcoma after a second histopathology opinion was sought in light of the radiology-pathology discordance. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Unusual Presentation of Fibrous Dysplasia in an Elderly Patient
Fibrous Dysplasia is a benign fibro-osseous lesion occurring throughout the skeletal system with a predilection for craniofacial bones, long bones, and ribs. Fibrous dysplasia develops during bone formation and growth with a variable natural evolution. It is considered a genetic nonheritable disease resulting from missense mutations that occur postzygotically in the GNAS1 gene. This mutation leads to a focal congenital failure of proper bone formation and arrest at the woven bone stage. In turn, this leads to a decreased mechanical strength, causing bone pain, pathological fractures, and skeletal deformities. Besides clini...

Caseous Calcification of the Mitral Annulus
We present the case of a 62-year-old patient with an intra-cardiac mass diagnosed by echocardiography. Imaging modalities to achieve a correct diagnosis and avoid unnecessary surgical intervention are discussed. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Delayed Diagnosis in a Case of Smoldering Sporotrichal Monoarthropathy
We present the clinical, imaging, and laboratory findings of a 41-year-old male with culture proven Sporothrix schenckii osteoarticular infection of the right knee. Fungal arthropathies are a rare and indolent form of septic arthritis, which often leads to a delayed diagnosis. Early diagnosis and treatment of fungal arthropathies is critical to preventing permanent functional disability. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Fascioliasis: A challenging differential diagnosis for radiologists
We report a case of a 39 year old male who presented with nausea and right upper quadrant pain. Marked eosinophilia and a hypoechoic liver lesion on ultrasound were identified. The differential diagnosis included neoplasms, infectious diseases and hepatic abscess. Indirect hemagglutination test using purified adult Fasciola hepatica f1Ag confirmed serologic diagnosis of fascioliasis. Radiologists should keep in mind the importance of correlating imaging, clinical and laboratory findings in order to reach the correct diagnosis. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Fibrocartilaginous Embolization - a Rare Cause of Spinal Cord Infarction: Case Report
A case of fibrocartilaginous embolization in 24-year-old female as a rare cause of spinal cord infarction is presented. It manifests as infarction syndrome with rapid progression of clinical signs - acute onset of quadriparesis and respiratory insufficiency. Among imaging studies MRI is the most accurate as it readily capable of detection of myelopathy and acute intervertebral disc lesion. Other laboratory tests and imaging modalities are usually normal. The final diagnosis is made by exclusion. (Source: Journal of Radiology Case Reports)

Primary Breast Liposarcoma
Liposarcoma of breast is a rare malignant breast tumor. It accounts for 0.3% of the breast sarcomas. Subtypes of breast sarcomas are angiosarcoma (most common), liposarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, leiomyosarcoma and fibrosarcoma. We hereby report a case of liposarcoma in a 55 year old female emphasizing the imaging features that can aid in differentiating it from benign fat -containing masses, carcinomas and other sarcomas. This is important as treatment of these varying conditions differ widely. Histologically, liposarcoma may be well differentiated, mixed or dedifferentiated (high grade). The risk of metastasis ...

Intraosseous " Lipoma " of the Calcaneus Developing in an Intraosseous Ganglion Cyst
In this report, an 18-year-old man presented with radiologic evidence of a simple bone cyst of the calcaneus. Over a 4-year period, the patient was followed with interval magnetic resonance imaging. The cyst demonstrated progressive development of peripheral intralesional fat with final magnetic resonance imaging features characteristic of an intraosseous lipoma. To our knowledge, this is the first longitudinal study that shows gradual peripheral fat deposition within an intraosseous ganglion cyst, illustrating a potential cause of intraosseous lipomas of the calcaneus.
