Dental clinical research: an illustration of the value of standardized diagnostic terms
ConclusionsOur results showed that most patients with CMP were not treated according to the AAP guidelines. On the basis of this use case, we conclude that the availability and habitual use of a structured diagnosis in an EHR allow for the aggregation and secondary analyses of clinical data to support downstream analyses for quality improvement and epidemiological assessments. Fluoride concentrations of milk, infant formulae, and soy‐based products commercially available in Brazil
ConclusionsThe results suggest that the consumption of some brands of infant formulae, powdered milk, and soy‐based milk in the first year of age could increase the risk of dental fluorosis, reinforcing the need for periodic surveillance of the F content of foods and beverages typically consumed by young children. Career satisfaction of Pennsylvanian dentists and dental hygienists and their plans to leave direct patient care
ConclusionsResults suggest that employment of dental hygienists is associated with lower career dissatisfaction and extended careers for dentists. However, a number of dentist characteristics are associated with difficulty hiring hygienists, including rural practice, nonwhite race, and solo ownership. Only 37.5 percent of hygienists work in a single, full‐time job, an outcome related to lower dissatisfaction and extended careers for hygienists. Characteristics associated with this job outcome include having an associate degree, having a local anesthesia permit, and not working for a solo practice. (Source: Journal of Pub...

Measuring oral health‐related quality of life in orthodontic patients with a short version of the Child Oral Health Impact Profile (COHIP)
ConclusionThe COHIP‐ortho is as valid as the COHIP‐38 for assessing OHRQOL in children. With a low response burden for patients or study participants, reduced cost, and less time needed for administration, the COHIP‐ortho simplifies the investigation of OHRQOL in orthodontics. Evidence‐practice gap for in‐office fluoride application in a dental practice‐based research network
ConclusionsDentist practice patterns for recommending in‐office fluoride vary widely. Recommendation was significantly related to having a higher percentage of patients interested in caries prevention and to the dentist's belief about the effectiveness of caries risk assessment.(Clinicaltrials.gov registration number NCT01680848). The accuracy of International Classification of Diseases coding for dental problems not associated with trauma in a hospital emergency department

However, ICD‐10‐CA codes can be used to accurately identify ED visits for NTDC. (Source: Journal of Public Health Dentistry)

Longitudinal changes in dental services provided by Australian dentists
ConclusionsThe longitudinal change in PPY with aging was an inverted U‐shape, which accelerated during younger age, and decelerated after reaching a peak at 50 years old. Males had higher PPY than female dentists at the same age. The pattern of PPY was different between male and female dentists. (Source: Journal of Public Health Dentistry)
