Measuring quality: caries ‐related emergency department visits and follow‐up among children
ConclusionsThese National Quality Forum endorsed measures provide valid methodologies for assessing the rate of caries‐related ED visits, an important system‐level outcome indicator of outpatient prevention and disease management, and the timeliness of follow‐up with a dentist. There is significant variation in caries‐related ED visits among state Medicaid programs, and most ED visits do not have follow‐up with a dentist within 30 days. The virtual dental home: a critique
This article describes the development and implementation of the Virtual Dental Home, subsequently critiquing the concept. The criteria for a dental home are not met by the program. It is the equivalent of a traditional public oral health prevention and screening program, with the additional dimension of allowing dental hygienists and assistants to place interim glass ionomer restorations in dental cavities. Utilization of teledentistry as a tool to screen for dental caries among 12 ‐year‐old school children in a rural region of India
ConclusionTeledentistry examination is comparable to clinical examination when screening for dental caries among school children. This study provides evidence that teledentistry may be used as an alternative screening tool for assessment of dental caries and is viable for remote consultation and treatment planning.
