Influence of removable prostheses on mastication in elderly subjects with rheumatoid arthritis
This study evaluated masticatory function in elderly patients with RA before and after oral rehabilitation with removable prostheses. Forty‐five elders with partial or total edentulism who were using unsatisfactory removable prostheses were selected and assigned to 3 groups: RA with TMJ involvement, RA without TMJ involvement and healthy controls. Masticatory function was assessed in terms of masticatory performance (MP) and maximum bite force (MBF). The former was determined by the sieving method, and the latter was measured by pressure sensors placed in the bilateral molar regions. The variables were first evaluated in...

Prevalence of tinnitus according to temporomandibular joint disorders and dental pain: The Korean National Population ‐based Study
Summary Some studies have reported that temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is related to tinnitus. However, there is no study of the relationship and prevalence of dental pain and tinnitus. We evaluated the associations between the prevalence of tinnitus and TMD and dental pain by analysing the Korean national health survey. We analysed totally 11 745 participants. The presence of tinnitus, TMD symptoms and dental pain was surveyed by self‐assessment questionnaires from all the participants. Multivariable regression analysis was applied to acquire odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The prevalence of...

Prominence of scientific publications towards peri ‐implant complications in implantology: A bibliometric analysis using the H‐classics method
Summary Current bibliometric analyses of the evolving trends in research scope category across different time periods using the H‐classics method in implantology are considerably limited. The purpose of this study was to identify the classic articles in implantology to analyse bibliometric characteristics and associated factors in implantology for the past four decades. H‐Classics in implantology were identified within four time periods between 1977 and 2016, based on the h‐index from the Scopus® database. For each article, the principal bibliometric parameters of authorship, geographic origin, country origin, and i...

Quantitative examination of isometric tongue protrusion forces in children with oro ‐facial dysfunctions or myofunctional disorders
Summary Oro‐facial dysfunctions (OFD) or oro‐facial myofunctional disorders in children lead to severe problems in teeth and jaw position, articulation, chewing and swallowing. The forces of the tongue, the central muscle for articulation, chewing and swallowing are focused on in several studies. In this examination, isometric tongue protrusion forces (TPF) of children with OFD and controls were compared. Thirty participants with OFD and 30 controls were presented a target force level as a straight line on a monitor that they were supposed to match by generating an isometric tongue force for different target levels (0....
