Epidemiology of HIV and Tuberculosis in pregnant women, South West Nigeria
Pregnant women remain the most vulnerable high-risk population to the devastating impact of the on-going human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) generalized epidemic and co-infection with Tuberculosis in Nigeria. By the end of 2017, the country ranked the second highest in adult HIV-infected individuals and the highest population of orphans due to AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. We assessed the epidemiology of HIV among pregnant women across ten facilities in south-west Nigeria. (Source: Journal of Infection and Public Health)

Exploring an optimal risk adjustment model for public reporting of cesarean section surgical site infections
Public report of surgical site infections (SSI) rates has been an important component of SSI reduction strategies, and risk adjustment is needed before SSI rates are publicly reported. Improving the risk adjustment model facilitates meaningful comparison in the public reporting of SSIs. This research aimed to explore an optimal risk adjustment model for the public reporting of cesarean section (CS) SSI. (Source: Journal of Infection and Public Health)

Prevalence, trend and antimicrobial susceptibility of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Nigeria: a systematic review
Evidence to demonstrate the prevalence and trend of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection in Nigeria is scarce. This review evaluates the prevalence, trend and antimicrobial susceptibility of clinical MRSA isolates reported in published studies. (Source: Journal of Infection and Public Health)

An unusual case of Pasteurella multocida bacteremic meningitis
We report a case of meningitis and bacteremia caused by P. multocida in a 67-year-old diabetic woman who was living with 10 cats. She didn ’t have any animal bites or scratches, but she reported kissing the pets in the mouth. The outcome was favorable following antimicrobial treatment. Although rarely encountered, P. multocida should be considered as a possible cause of meningitis, particularly when Gram-negative coccobacilli are rev ealed in the cerebrospinal fluid and a history of recent animal contact is present. Distribution of biocide resistant genes and biocides susceptibility in multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii — A first report from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of biocide resistant genes, qacA, qacE and cepA in multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii and to correlate the presence or absence of resistant genes with biocides susceptibility. Microfilaria in kidney biopsy: A report of two cases
We present two cases of filariasis presenting with renal symptoms warranting kidney biopsy. Histopathology of both revealed microfilaria in the glomerular capillary loop. First case was a 23-year-old male who presented with complaints of passage of milky urine. Second case was a 36-year-old female patient who presented with complaints of gross hematuria. First report of Candida auris infections from Saudi Arabia
Candida auris is an emerging multidrug resistant pathogen worldwide causing a variety of nosocomial infections and creating a major challenge for infection control and prevention teams [1,2]. C. auris infections have been reported in over 20 countries on five continents including Gulf States such as Kuwait, Oman, and UAE [1 –8]. To our knowledge, we report the first three cases of C. auris infections from Saudi Arabia. (Source: Journal of Infection and Public Health)

Non-linear spatial modeling of rat sightings in relation to urban multi-source foci
The brown rat has been living with humans in a wide variety of environmental contexts; it adversely affects public health by transmission of pathogens that can cause human diseases and allergies. Understanding behavioral aspects and environmental factors of pest species can contribute to their effective management and control. This aim of this study was to investigate the spatial distribution of rats in Latina district of Madrid (Spain), and its relationship with several potential multi-source foci. Mycobacterium riyadhense as the opportunistic infection that lead to HIV diagnosis: A report of 2 cases and literature review
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection usually presents with a wide range of manifestations. Although HIV patients are prone to pulmonary infections by opportunistic pathogens in the late stage of AIDS, manifesting the disease with pulmonary infections caused by Mycobacterium riyadhense (newly identified non-tuberculous mycobacteria) is extremely rare with only one case reported in the literature. We are describing two previously healthy patients who presented with M. riyadhense lung infection and were subsequently found to have HIV, illustrating the need for considering the possibility M.
