Brain atrophy in middle ‐aged subjects with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, with and without microvascular complications
Conclusions: Brain atrophy is present in dementia‐free middle‐aged adults with T2DM. Regional brain atrophy appears to be developing even in those with no clinical evidence of microvascular disturbances. The brain seems to be particularly vulnerable to metabolic disorders prior to peripheral microvascular pathologies associated with other target organs. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

The association between type 2 diabetes and disability: what is the contribution of diabetes risk factors and diabetes complications?
ConclusionsDiabetes is associated with a 67% increased risk of disability. Diabetes risk factors and comorbidities explain more of the association between diabetes and disability among South Asians than Africans. Obesity and history of CVD explained the largest percentage of the relationship between diabetes and disability, respectively, indicating that weight and CVD management might be helpful in controlling disability related to diabetes. Stage of obesity epidemic model: Learning from tobacco control and advocacy for a framework convention on obesity control
Abstract The 2011 United Nations political declaration against non‐communicable diseases (NCDs) targeted four major risk factors: tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, an unhealthy diet, and a lack of physical activity. The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), MPOWER strategies, and the four‐stage model of the tobacco epidemic are useful references for the prevention and control of other risk factors and NCDs. Obesity control is a more complex challenge. Herein we propose a stage of obesity epidemic model (SOEM). Obesity is in the early stages in most countries with increasing prevalence, but its effects on m...

Severe Insulin Resistance Due to Insulin Antibodies
Abstract Individual reports have discussed cases of severe insulin resistance (IR) secondary to insulin antibodies (IAs) 1, 2, and several methods of treatment have shown some success 3‐5. Here, we reported a 58‐year‐old Chinese woman of a 14‐year history of type 2 diabetes with severe diabetic ketoacidosis by IAs. Informed consent was obtained from the patient. Glucose excursions and hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes treated with mitiglinide/voglibose versus glimepiride: A randomized cross ‐over trial
ConclusionsAdding mitiglinide/voglibose to vildagliptin therapy results in more efficient postprandial glucose control and less hypoglycemia than adding glimepiride. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Exploring Self ‐Management on Glycemic Control Using a Modified Information–Motivation–Behavioral Skills Model in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Shanghai, China: a Cross‐Sectional Study
ConclusionsGlycemic control can be well involved in the IMB model. The utility of the modified model in this population is validated. T2DM patients with poor control of glucose levels might be a better target population for application of the modified IMB model. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)
