ASA physical status classification of obstructive sleep apnoea disease
The American Society of Anaesthesiologists' (ASA) physical status classification is a subjective marker of patients' preoperative health status; and a predictor of perioperative outcome [1]. However, it has inter-rater variability [2,3,4]. The classification highlights many examples of morbidities for each class, but does not mention obstructive sleep apnoea. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a morbidity that is prevalent and associated with perioperative complications [5]. Preoperative assessment of OSA patients may vary among clinicians. Dexmedetomidine-induced polyuric syndrome and hypotension
Dexmedetomidine was reported to cause polyuria during surgery. Here we report a case about small loading dose of dexmedetomidine that caused polyuria and hypotension during surgery in an elderly patient, using moderate even high doses of dopamine to maintain blood pressure, and cause severe hypotension after surgery. Erratum to “Major complications of regional anesthesia in 11 teaching hospitals of China: a prospective survey of 106,569 cases” [Journal of Clinical Anesthesia 2016: 31; 154–161]
In the above article, a piece of data from Auroy Y, et al. (Anesthesiology. 2002; 97: 1274 –1280) was cited incorrectly. In the discussion, we compared the incidence of RA complications reported by a French group (Auroy Y, et al., Anesthesiology. 2002; 97: 1274–1280) with ours, their number which should be 3.5/10,000, was cited as 0.35/10,000.
