Anxiety moderates the effects of stressor controllability and cognitive reappraisal on distress following aversive exposure: An experimental investigation
ConclusionsThese findings indicate that the utility of CR may depend upon contextual factors such as stressor controllability, and individual differences in psychological symptoms. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Improving the psychometric properties of dot-probe attention measures using response-based computation
ConclusionsResponse-based attention measures demonstrate superior psychometric properties compared to standard attention measures, which may improve the detection of anxiety-related associations and treatment-related changes in clinical samples. Influence of sad mood induction on implicit self-esteem and its relationship with symptoms of depression and anxiety
ConclusionsWhile ISE was robust against increases in sad mood, there was some tentative support that symptoms of anxiety were related to larger decreases in ISE following a SMI. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

High obsessive-compulsive individuals may have attenuated access to internal cues associated with active movement: Evidence from a head repositioning study
ConclusionsThis study implies that high OC individuals have a deficient access to internal cues involved in active movement. This might contribute to their doubt regarding their actions and to their reduced SoA. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

The effects of one night of partial sleep deprivation on executive functions in individuals reporting chronic insomnia and good sleepers
ConclusionsWe found that SC was smaller in the good sleepers after a night of partial sleep deprivation compared to a habitual night, indicating a better switching performance. The insomnia group showed no differences in performance after the two experimental nights. Several factors may account for these results, including increased levels of arousal and cognitive effort during task execution. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Persecutory delusions: effects of Cognitive Bias Modification for Interpretation and the Maudsley Review Training Programme on social anxiety, jumping to conclusions, belief inflexibility and paranoia
ConclusionsThis study suggests that whilst both CBM-I and the MRTP may have a positive impact on paranoia and social anxiety, the effects on JTC/belief inflexibility are largely specific to the MRTP. Relationships between social anxiety, JTC, belief inflexibility and paranoia existed in 10/12 individuals, supporting the Threat Anticipation Model. Effects of social anxiety on metaphorical associations between emotional valence and clothing brightness
ConclusionsWe may expand Lakoff and Johnson’s (1999) conceptual metaphor theory by showing the relationships between social anxiety and malfunction in metaphorical processing. Malfunctions in metaphorical processing could lead to various types of psychological disorders which have deficiencies in emotional processing. The paradox of moral cleansing: When physical cleansing leads to increased contamination concerns
ConclusionsThis research provides further evidence of the influence of moral threat in contamination concerns, and the limits of moral cleansing. Self-affirmation resulted in less contamination concerns under both a neutral condition and activated obsessive type cognitions. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

My Child's thoughts frighten me: Maladaptive effects associated with parents' interpretation and management of children's intrusive thoughts
ConclusionsParents' misinterpretation of children's intrusions may operate as a mechanism by which OCS are generationally transmitted. Results can inform OC prevention programs that target parents' cognitive biases in their own psychotherapy. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)
