The effects of retrieval versus rehearsal of online problem-solving therapy sessions on recall, problem-solving skills and distress in distressed individuals: An experimental study
ConclusionsThis study provided the first evidence that retrieval of the content of PST sessions may lead to better session recall compared to rehearsal of the PST sessions in individuals with a low working memory score. Implications for the use of cognitive support strategies within a therapeutic setting are discussed. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Utilising cognitive bias modification to remedy appearance and self-worth biases in eating disorder psychopathology: A systematic review
ConclusionsThe current findings highlight the potential of CBM as an adjunct intervention for EDs; however the limited number of investigations and high degree of heterogeneity across the included studies impedes on the generalisability of the findings. Detecting feigned high impact experiences: A symptom over-report questionnaire outperforms the emotional Stroop task
ConclusionOur findings add to the doubts on the idea that the MST can be used to differentiate between genuine and feigned complaints. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Impact of repetitive thought and processing mode on goal striving
ConclusionInterventions that increase repetitive thought in the concrete-experiential processing mode may be effective in facilitating long-term goal strivings in individuals attempting to overcome difficult situations and achieve important personal goals. No evidence for the inverted U-Curve: More demanding dual tasks cause stronger aversive memory degradation
ConclusionsThere is strong evidence for a linear dose-response relationship between WM taxation and memory degradation immediately after the intervention, and some unconvincing evidence for this pattern one day later. There was no evidence for an inverted U-curve. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Encoding or consolidation? The effects of pre- and post-learning propranolol on the impact of an emotional scene
ConclusionsAn impact of propranolol on encoding could raise difficulties in interpretation when only pre-encoding propranolol is used to make inferences about consolidation. We discuss the challenges of elucidating the mechanistic underpinnings of propranolol's reported effects on memory. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Measuring cognitive vulnerability to depression: Further evidence on the factorial and predictive validity of negative cognitive style
ConclusionsTogether, the results of our two studies support the construct validity of the CSQ-SF and recommend the use of a composite score of negative cognitive style without internality. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Visuospatial computer game play after memory reminder delivered three days after a traumatic film reduces the number of intrusive memories of the experimental trauma
ConclusionsWe demonstrated that 3 days after experimental trauma (i.e. after memory consolidation) an intervention comprising a reminder task prior to a 15 min cognitive interference task (one of two computer games) led to a reduction in intrusion occurrence compared to reminder only. We interpret and discuss our findings within the framework of supposed reconsolidation-update mechanisms and competition for limited (visuospatial) working memory resources. Should these effects hold true in clinical populations, this type of simple intervention approach could help contribute to reducing intrusive memories of trauma. (Sourc...

Rescripting experimental trauma: Effects of imagery and writing as a way to reduce the development of intrusive memories
ConclusionsWe replicated previous effects of ImRs on intrusion development. Furthermore, no superior effect of imagery as key modality for rescripting was found; writing seems a viable alternative. Measures for implicit emotional memory such as the VIT may have to be applied relatively soon after the experimental session (e.g., same day as the experimental session). Perfectly imperfect: The use of cognitive bias modification to reduce perfectionism
ConclusionsFurther research and development of the perfectionism CBM-I intervention are needed, but the present findings add to a nascent evidence base that suggests CBM-I holds promise as an accessible and transdiagnostic intervention for perfectionism. Effects of interpretation bias modification on unregulated and regulated emotional reactivity
ConclusionsIn line with previous research, our findings suggest that the effects of IBM on unregulated stress reactivity may be small and inconsistent. Differences in the extent to which participants engaged in emotion regulation during stressor exposure are unlikely to account for these inconsistencies.
