A global survey on trends in advanced practice and specialisation in the pharmacy workforce
ConclusionsThis survey of 48 countries and territories was the first of its kind to describe the range of specialisation and professional recognition systems for advanced pharmacy practice worldwide. Despite the variance, it is clear from this global study that professional advancement and the recognition of advancement in practice are developing around the world and this could be due to the increasingly complex nature of pharmaceutical care delivery and a consequent need to be able to endorse professional capabilities. Development of an education and support framework for pharmacists working in GP practice
ConclusionsFormal training was well received. Early local support from health boards and GP Practices would enable pharmacists to get an earlier grasp of tasks relating to ‘management and systems’ so they could focus on more rewarding clinical tasks. Being an independent prescriber (or working towards this) is essential for the development of competence in this role. An educational support framework model is proposed. How do pharmacy students select their pre ‐registration training providers? A mixed methods evaluation of the national recruitment scheme in England and Wales
ConclusionsSecondary care was the most desirable destination for pharmacy students to undertake early career training. The clinical roles and career opportunities in community pharmacy needs to be promoted as there is a risk that community pharmacy training programme places may be seen as a ‘left over’ opportunity for less competitive candidates to uptake. National survey of pharmacists, intern pharmacists and pharmacy students in Australia: the nature and extent of stress and well ‐being
ConclusionsWorkplace stress is high, particularly among younger members of the workforce. Professional pharmacy associations, schools of pharmacy at Australian universities and AHPRA have been alerted to this issue. The survey should be repeated reasonably soon to determine if any of the key characteristics have changed, particularly if interventions are made to reduce the occurrence of workplace ‐related stress. Medication adherence in patients with mental illness and recent homelessness: contributing factors and perceptions on mobile technology use
ConclusionExternal supports and individual medication management strategies were important in supporting medication adherence in this patient group. Perceived need for mobile technology, in addition to existing supports for adherence, was not high. Challenges accessing and maintaining consistent mobile technology and individual preferences should be considered when developing mobile technology ‐based interventions. Analysis of pharmacist ‐identified medication‐related problems at two United Kingdom hospitals: a prospective observational study
ConclusionsThis research suggests patients are at greatest need of pharmacist input in terms of identification/resolution of clinically relevant MRPs during early stages of inpatient stay; however, clinically relevant MRPs continue to occur throughout their stay, suggesting need for ongoing pharmacy review. Attitudes of pharmacy and non ‐pharmacy students towards mental illness in Nigeria: a comparative survey
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that students' attitudes towards mental illness were positive but sub ‐optimal. Student pharmacists demonstrated more positive attitudes towards mental illness compared with non‐pharmacy students. However, the major contributors to positive attitudes were male gender, older age, a previous visit to a mental hospital and having a close associate with a mental illne ss. Therefore, educational interventions addressing students’ misconceptions of mental illness are recommended. (Source: International Journal of Pharmacy Practice)

How to measure a latent construct: Psychometric principles for the development and validation of measurement instruments
AbstractMeasurement instruments are used to collect data about respondents. In social pharmacy, measurement instruments are often used to measure latent constructs, such as attitudes, among healthcare professionals and patients. This paper aims to describe the fundamental aspects of designing and validating instruments, which aim to measure latent constructs. The main focus of this manuscript is to describe the considerations and processes relating to exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, when used to develop measures of latent psychosocial constructs. However, it also presents a detailed summary of the current evi...
