The Chronic Knee Pain Program: A self-management model
ConclusionsThe Chronic Knee Pain Program had a small sample size and high attrition rate, though yielded positive outcomes for some participants. Future research could focus on depression management, using conservative measures to help manage pain, and increasing pain coping skills. Implementing this program with a larger sample size is recommended to see if BMI, depression symptom severity and physical activity levels reach statistical significance. ConclusionNurses and physiotherapists experience numerous challenges from both patient and resources related factors such as environment, staffing and time limitations; safety risks to patient and staff; and communication barriers due to patient's altered mental state. ConclusionFall location, time to surgery and baseline function predict independent mobility one week after hip fracture, and can be used for early rehabilitation stratification. An audit of complications of fiberglass cast and hybrid cast for fractures of the foot, ankle and forearm in a Swedish emergency department
ConclusionFiberglass casts did not cause severe complications in this group of patients with uncomplicated fractures of the extremities. However, 25% of the patients experienced some form of complication. Interventions are needed that minimize the frequency of complications. As with all healthcare interventions, it is crucial that staff applying casts and providing follow-up care are competent. ConclusionAlthough women constitute the majority of elderly with hip fractures, men had higher mortality in our study. Studies are needed to examine factors affecting this gender difference.
