Contrasting the risk factors of grief and burden in caregivers of persons with dementia: multivariate analysis
ConclusionsThe different risk factor profiles evidence a distinction between PDG and caregiver burden. They may possibly be distilled into a framework to direct our approach to PDG interventions, which may include using caregiver burden as an opportunity to initiate conversations on grief, exploring the various aspects of losses and encouraging adaptive coping. Clock Drawing and Neuroanatomical Correlates: A Systematic Review
ConclusionsThe CDT, regardless of scoring method and population studied, was not associated with any consistent, specific brain localization. This systematic review supports the use of the CDT as a cognitive screening test rather than a method of localizing brain lesions. (Source: International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry)

Changes in the expression of worries, anxiety and Generalized anxiety disorder with increasing age: A population study of 70 ‐85 year‐olds
ConclusionsThe prevalence of ICD10 GAD tended to decrease with increasing age while the prevalence of DSM5 GAD remained stable. This difference was partly due to a decreased frequency of severe anxiety and autonomic arousal symptoms, and that worries increased, suggesting changes in the expression of GAD with increasing age. Emotional distress mediates the relationship between cognitive failures, dysfunctional coping, and life satisfaction in older people living in sheltered housing: A structural equation modelling approach
ConclusionsThis study found that experiencing emotional distress helped to explain the association and negative effects of cognitive failures and dysfunctional coping on life satisfaction in older people living in sheltered housing. These findings contribute to our understanding of the key mechanisms of experiencing cognitive failures in late life and can help guide future interventions of well ‐being in later life. Associations of white matter hyperintensities with poststroke depression: A 1 ‐year longitudinal study
ConclusionThe association between WMH and PSD varies according to type of WMH, and time after stroke, such that early depressive symptoms are associated with PVWMHs, and delayed severe depression is associated with DWMHs. (Source: International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry)

CSF biomarkers in delirium: a systematic review
ConclusionsThe 22 studies identified in this review reveal a small but growing literature, in which many of the important hypotheses in delirium pathogenesis have been examined, but from which few firm conclusions can currently be drawn. Nevertheless, the overall interpretation of the literature supports the vulnerable brain concept, that is, that biomarker evidence of, for example, Alzheimer's disease pathology and/or neuroinflammation, is associated with delirium. A systematic review of neuroimaging in delirium: predictors, correlates and consequences
ConclusionsNeuroimaging is now used more widely in delirium research due to advances in technology. However, imaging delirious patients presents challenges leading to methodological limitations and restricted generalisability. The findings that atrophy and WMH burden predict delirium replicates findings from the original review, while advanced techniques have identified other substrates and mechanisms that warrant further investigation. Delirium pathophysiology: An updated hypothesis of the etiology of acute brain failure
ConclusionsThe systems integration failure hypothesis attempts to explain how the various proposed delirium pathophysiologic theories interact with each other, causing various clinically observed delirium phenotypes. A better understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of delirium may eventually assist in designing better prevention and management approaches.
