Artemisinin-based combination therapy in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria: review of recent regulatory experience at the European Medicines Agency
Malaria remains a major public health challenge with almost half of the world's population exposed to the risk of contracting the illness. Prompt, effective and well tolerated treatment remains one of the cornerstones in the disease management, with artemisinin-based combination therapy the recommended option for non-severe malaria in endemic areas with predominant Plasmodium falciparum infections. Recent experience has been obtained at the European Medicines Agency with regulatory approval of two such antimalarial fixed combination products. For these cases, two different regulatory pathways were applied. As such, the pre...

Strengthening state/non-state service delivery partnerships in the health sector in Nepal
State/non-state partnerships in the health sector are of crucial importance in Nepal where partnerships between the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and external actors have been fundamental to Nepal making progress in meeting millennium development goals. However, partnerships need to be strengthened. To gather information about partnerships we searched MoHP partnership evaluations as well as PubMed Central, EBSCOhost, OVIDSP, PROQUEST, Science Direct, and MedLine. We found 11 MoHP documents and 167 papers about state/non-state partnerships. Using the inclusion criteria we examined three MoHP policy documents/eval...

Meningococcal meningitis: vaccination outbreak response and epidemiological changes in the African meningitis belt
The main approach to controlling epidemics of meningococcal meningitis in the African meningitis belt has been reactive vaccination campaigns with serogroup A polysaccharide vaccine once the outbreak reached an incidence threshold. Early reactive vaccination is effective in reducing morbidity and mortality. A recent paper in International Health has shown that earlier reactive vaccination campaigns may be even more effective than increasing the coverage area of vaccination. Monovalent serogroup A conjugate vaccine programs have recently been launched to prevent transmission in endemic areas in the African meningitis belt. ...
