A de novo Randall disease in a kidney transplant recipient: A case report
Conclusion A de novo Randall disease post-renal transplantation is not only very rare, but also there is no consensus of it is a management. (Source: Indian Journal of Transplantation)

The importance of donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (DSA) identification in renal transplant patients with C4d-negative biopsies
Publication date: Available online 11 March 2016 Source:Indian Journal of Transplantation Author(s): S. Mehrotra, R.K. Sharma, P. Rishishwar Two index cases of living-related donor renal allografts patients developed C4d-negative rejection. Both cases had negative cytotoxic crossmatch and negative flow crossmatch before transplantation. The serum creatinine levels were tabulated. Both cases experienced augmented anti-T cell therapy (intravenous methyl prednisolone) at the time of rejection, which failed to improve renal function. Meantime, our HLA lab identified circulating anti-class I and/or II HLA antibodies t...

BK virus-related thrombotic microangiopathy in a kidney transplant recipient
In this report, we present our experiences of successful treatment of a renal transplant case of TMA due to BK virus, not a frequent cause of TMA. The clinical picture of TMA caused by endothelial damage through cytopathic effects of viral antigens was evaluated in the light of the relevant literature. Neurological complications in renal transplant patients: A single-center experience
Conclusion We conclude that complications involving the neurological system occur in 10.5% of all transplant patients with 8% involving CNS and 7% involving the PNS. The high mortality rates associated with CNS complications warrant early diagnosis and aggressive treatment in renal transplant recipients. (Source: Indian Journal of Transplantation)

Oligospermia secondary to sirolimus
Publication date: Available online 18 November 2015 Source:Indian Journal of Transplantation Author(s): Syed Sajad Hussain, Samina Farhat, Imtiyaz Wani Sirolimus, one of the leading drugs of the mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor (mTORi) family, is a promising immunosuppressive drug being used after solid organ transplantation. The introduction of sirolimus in renal transplantation has increased the repertoire of immunosuppressive protocols substantially. It has a different mode of action and a different side effect profile (i.e. lower nephrotoxicity, less hypertension and less neoplastic potential) than the...

Complete recovery of acute kidney injury in native kidney following heart kidney transplantation
We report the case of a 23-year-old female who developed severe acute kidney injury (AKI) in the setting of recent onset congestive heart failure secondary to viral cardiomyopathy, cardiogenic shock unresponsive to placement of a biventricular assist device with continued requirement of multiple intravenous pressors, recurrent ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation, and rhabdomyolysis secondary to ischemic necrosis of left leg muscles. Daily slow, low-efficiency dialysis was instituted shortly after admission. Given the possibility of irreversible AKI and the inferior outcomes following heart transplantation alone in patient...

Renal transplant: Tacrolimus use and two weeks post-transplant serum creatinine levels predict early acute rejections
Conclusions Renal transplant cases with elevated creatinine at two weeks post-transplant and those on cyclosporine-based immunosuppression are at higher risk of acute rejection and would require more frequent follow-ups and monitoring to diagnose early acute rejection episodes. Kidney transplantation: Hemodialysis and surrounding are they informed enough?
Publication date: Available online 21 November 2015 Source:Indian Journal of Transplantation Author(s): Béfa Noto Kadou Kaza, Kossi Akomola Sabi, Eyram Yoan Makafui Amekoudi, Ghislain Imangue, Mays Hadi Al-Torayhi, Claude Mawufemo Tsevi, Mohamed Zamd, Ghislaine Medkouri, Mohamed Gharbi Benghanem, Benyounes Ramdani Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for chronic renal failure. However there is less donors compared to recipients whose number continues to increase. Ignorance of transplantation by hemodialysis patients and their families could be one of the causes. We aim to assess the knowled...

Management of acute anastomotic transplant renal artery stenosis in orthotopic renal transplantation by percutaneous angioplasty and stenting in the early post-operative period
We report a case of a 55-year-old male, chronic smoker with extensive atherosclerotic disease who underwent right orthotopic live related renal transplantation. On 6th post-operative day, the patient had sudden drop in urine output and graft site pain and found to have acute anastomotic transplant renal artery stenosis (TRAS), which was managed successfully with percutaneous angioplasty (PA) and stenting. His post-operative course was uneventful and has normal renal functions at 6 months post-transplant period. (Source: Indian Journal of Transplantation)

Study of the outcome of renal transplants with single versus multiple renal arteries in obese recipients
Conclusions Even though obesity is not a contraindication for renal transplant surgery, we need to be conscious while selecting patients with multiple renal arteries for obese recipients. (Source: Indian Journal of Transplantation)

Replacement of calcineurin inhibitors with everolimus: Long-term impact in renal transplant recipients – A single center study
Conclusion Improvement in the renal function was observed in early switchover. Furthermore, patients with good renal function may benefit from conversion even at a late stage, and in patients with suboptimal renal function everolimus may not add any further benefit. HLA haplotype diversity in the South Indian population and its relevance
Conclusion Each linguistic group has unique haplotypes along with a few common haplotypes. In order to adequately represent the Indian population on the registry, each linguistic group should be targeted for donor recruitment. This would enable a better chance for any patient to find a matched unrelated donor. (Source: Indian Journal of Transplantation)
