Ten Years after the Creation of the Portuguese National Network for Long-Term Care in 2006: Achievements and Challenges
The current demographic and epidemiological transition is posing more challenges in developed countries, namely due to the increasing percentage of elderly and changes in patients ’ morbidity (e.g. increase of chronic diseases with longer treatment times) [1]. With a rapidly ageing population, Portugal is not an exception. This situation has worsened due to the effects of the economic crisis, which resulted in the emigration of fertile and active citizens [2]. (Source: Health Policy)

Utilization and costs of HIV antiretroviral drugs in Europe during the last ten years: Impact of generic antiretroviral drugs on cost reduction
Since the introduction of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART), HIV infection has become a manageable disease and life expectancy of HIV-infected people considerably increased [1 –4]. However, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) noted a stable incidence of HIV infection the last ten years, according to the 2015 report [5] and a significant increase in the number of new HIV cases in Europe the past three year s [6]. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2015 also reported constant incidence of HIV infection and reduction of mortality in people li...

Implementing the medicines reconciliation tool in practice: challenges and opportunities for pharmacists in Kuwait
Medications errors and discrepancies which occur during patients ’ transition between different healthcare settings can result in serious harm to patients and substantial healthcare costs [1–3]. These errors occur most commonly at interfaces of care, particularly at the time of hospital admission due to incomplete medication history acquisition [4–6]. Medic ation errors are also likely to occur at the time of patient discharge from hospitals as a result of discrepancies in medication information or patient discharge with inadequate medication instructions [3,7]. Cognitive determinants of healthcare evaluations – A comparison of Eastern and Western European countries
There is growing scholarly interest in the public opinion of healthcare and in the assessment and comparison of healthcare system performance [1 –11]. Global evaluation measures of healthcare, such as satisfaction ratings, are often used to study the public’s general attitude to the healthcare system [4,5]. They address the general public – users and non-users alike – and provide a composite assessment of the healthcare system more b roadly [12,13]. The more positively individuals evaluate healthcare services in their country, the higher the (subjective) performance of the system. (Source: Health Policy)

The role of the 2011 patients' rights in cross-border health care directive in shaping seven national health systems: Looking beyond patient mobility
Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare (hereafter referred to as the directive) entered into force on 24 April 2011 and had to be transposed into national law until 25 October 2013 [1]. The impact of the financial crisis and austerity policies on the service quality of public hospitals in Greece
After eight years of recession, Greece had experienced a loss of about 26 percent of GDP. In this era of economic crisis, Greek governments have applied a reform program in the National Healthcare System (NHS), as an obligatory condition for the rescue loans agreed upon with the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The most important reform in the NHS carried out between 2010 and the present day involved the merging of the four largest social security institutions that covered salaried employees of the private sector, farmers, the self-employed, and civil servants, under the N...
