Relationship between mandibular symphysis dimensions and mandibular anterior alveolar bone thickness as assessed with cone-beam computed tomography
Conclusion: For mandibular anterior teeth, the apical alveolar bone and lingual alveolar bone tended to be thicker in patients with a wide and short symphysis, compared to those with a narrow and long symphysis. Buccal alveolar bone was, in general, very thin and did not show a significant relationship with most symphysis dimensions.RESUMO Objetivo: o objetivo desse artigo foi avaliar a correla ção entre as dimensões da sínfise e a espessura do osso alveolar (EOA) na região anterior da mandíbula. Métodos: imagens de tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico (TCFC) de 51 pacientes foram selecionadas e medidas. A...

Stability of the anterior arm of three different Hyrax hybrid expanders: an in vitro study
Conclusions: The present study shows the importance of a rigid design of the different components of HHEs, and also that HHEs would be s uitable for maxillary expansion in adolescents and young adults, since its mean expansion forces exceed 120N. Furthermore, early abutment detachment or smaller mini-implants diameter would only be appropriate for children.RESUMO Introdu ção: a força aplicada sobre os dentes por expansores ortopédicos fixos já foi estudada antes, mas não a força aplicada sobre os mini-implantes ortodônticos (MIOs) usados para expandir a maxila com expansores do tipo Hyrax híbrido (EHH). Decoronation followed by dental implants placement: fundamentals, applications and explanations
ABSTRACT Dental arches areas with teeth presenting dentoalveolar ankylosis and replacement root resorption can be considered as presenting normal bone, in full physiological remodeling process; and osseointegrated implants can be successfully placed. Bone remodeling will promote osseointegration, regardless of presenting ankylosis and/or replacement root resorption. After 1 to 10 years, all dental tissues will have been replaced by bone. The site, angulation and ideal positioning in the space to place the implant should be dictated exclusively by the clinical convenience, associated with previous planning. One of the advan...

Compensatory Class III malocclusion treatment associated with mandibular canine extractions
ABSTRACT Skeletal Class III malocclusions are ideally treated with orthodontic-surgical approaches. However, if there are no significant soft tissue implications and the patient does not want to undergo orthognatic surgery, other treatment options may be considered. The current case report describes a compensatory alternative for Class III malocclusion treatment, by means of mandibular canine extractions. This treatment alternative provided facial profile and occlusal improvement, which remains stable seven years posttreatment.RESUMO As m ás oclusões esqueléticas de Classe III são idealmente tratadas com intervenções...
