Soft-Tissue Chondroma in the Preauricular Region: An Unusual Presentation
This article presents an 80-year-old man with preauricular swelling on the right side and pain with no limitation of joint motion. This patient was evaluated by preoperative clinical manifestation, fine needle aspiration, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. The MRI shows a solid lobulated lesion between the masseter muscle and the parotid gland whereas fine-needle aspiration did not provide a diagnosis. Based on these images and the patient's indications and symptoms, a surgical intervention was performed. It is possible to identify three different types of chondromas in the parotid region based on thei...

Posttraumatic Parotid Sialocele Complicating a Mandibular Fracture: A Case Report
We present a unique case involving a 32-year-old man with blunt trauma resulting in a left mandibular angle fracture. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the left mandibular angle fracture via transoral approach. At follow-up, after resolution of the edema from the injury, a sialocele was noted in the region of the left anterior parotid gland. The patient was treated conservatively with antisialagogues, pressure dressings, and multiple percutaneous aspirations that ultimately resulted in resolution of the sialocele. The Pull-Through Technique: A Viable Option for Preserving the Inferior Alveolar Nerve during Surgical Resection
Cranial Maxillofac Trauma Reconstruction DOI: 10.1055/s-0036-1593893The aim of this study was to present a new surgical technique used to remove benign mandibular tumors with minimal damage to the inferior alveolar nerve. The pull-through technique was shown using an ameloblastoma surgical resection as an example. This technique consisted in the reconstruction of the lower jaw associating the resection of the lesion with nerve repair at the same surgical time. The resection was performed using the pull-through technique and the inferior alveolar nerve was preserved. After 6 months, the patient presented a recovery of appro...

Zygomatic Intraosseous Hemangioma: Case Report and Literature Review
Cranial Maxillofac Trauma Reconstruction DOI: 10.1055/s-0036-1592087Intraosseous hemangiomas are uncommon intrabony lesions, representing approximately 0.5 to 1% of all intraosseous tumors. Their description varies from “benign vasoformative neoplasms” to true hamartomatous proliferations of endothelial cells forming a vascular network with intermixed fibrous connective tissue stroma. These commonly present as a firm, painless swelling. Intraosseous hemangiomas present more commonly in females than in males and most likely occur in the fourth decade of life. The most common etiology of intraosseous hemangioma is believ...

Bone Allograft: An Option for Total Mandibular Reconstruction
We report a 25-year-old male patient with complete involvement of the mandible by Langerhans cell tumor. The patient underwent total mandibulectomy and reconstruction with bone allograft harvested from a donor who had died the day before. The patient has good functional and aesthetic results in a long time. It seems that bone allograft can be a good alternative to other methods in total mandibular reconstruction. New Management in Bilateral Masseter Muscle Hypertrophy
Cranial Maxillofac Trauma Reconstruction DOI: 10.1055/s-0036-1592089Bilateral masseter muscle hypertrophy is an alteration in shape and thickness of the masseter muscles that can modify the width of the lower face causing aesthetic and functional problems. A 21-year-old man was referred to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at the Civil Hospital in Brescia by his dentist for an evaluation of his facial appearance with a square-face type. To reduce the undesirable facial appearance, a surgical intraoral approach was performed; the procedure includes the bilateral dissection of the masseter muscle, partial lipectomy, an...

Percutaneous Tracheostomy and Percutaneous Angiography: The Diuturnity of Sven-Ivar Seldinger of Mora, Pasquale Ciaglia of Utica
Cranial Maxillofac Trauma Reconstruction DOI: 10.1055/s-0036-1584526In the latter part of the 20th century, three developments intersected: skin-to-artery catheterization, percutaneous tracheostomy, and market introduction of video-chip camera-tipped endoscopes. By the millennium, every vessel within the body could be visualized radiographically, and percutaneous tracheostomy (with tracheal-ring “dilation,” flawless high-resolution intratracheal video-imagery, and tracheal intubation) could consistently be achieved at the patient's bedside. Initiated through the skin and abetted by guide-wire insertion, these procedure...
