Recent advances of designing dynamic surfaces to regulate cell adhesion
Publication date: March 2020Source: Colloid and Interface Science Communications, Volume 35Author(s): Xinlian Zhao, Lulu Jin, Haifei Shi, Weijun Tong, Dmitry Gorin, Yuri Kotelevtsev, Zhengwei MaoAbstractCells are always living in a dynamic microenvironment and are able to respond to stimuli and modulate their functions. Cell adhesion is the fundamental of almost all cell behaviors, such as cell proliferation, migration, differentiation etc. Therefore, it is essential to provide a platform for studying and regulating cell adhesion in dynamic environment. Owing to the controllability of surface properties, materials with dyn...

The effect of surface charge on cellular uptake and inflammatory behavior of carbon dots
In this study, two oppositely charged CDs were synthesized and compared for their surface charge dependent interaction with different cell lines. Positively charged CDs were synthesized by using bovine serum albumin (BSA) and negatively charged CDs were synthesized using citric acid (CA) by acidic hydrolysis and reflux methods, respectively. Using both CDs, a concentration dependent cytotoxicity was carried out on 3T3 fibroblast, MDA-MB-231 breast cancer and RAW 264.7 macrophage cell lines, while cellular uptake and inflammatory studies were conducted with RAW 264.7 macrophages cell line. Results showed that both BSA and C...

Tannic acid-assisted deposition of silk sericin on the titanium surfaces for antifouling application
Publication date: March 2020Source: Colloid and Interface Science Communications, Volume 35Author(s): Yan Fang Cheng, Yi Hong Mei, Gnanasekar Sathishkumar, Zhi Song Lu, Chang Ming Li, Feng Wang, Qing You Xia, Li Qun XuAbstractSilk sericin (SS), a by-product in the field of sericulture, is degummed from raw silk and mostly discarded in silk processing wastewater, causing water pollution. However, it could be interesting to explore the possible utilization of hydrophilic SS as a value-added product in the antifouling application. In this work, natural tannic acid (TA) and SS were conjugated via hydrogen bonding interactions,...
