Prediction of oil/water interfacial tension containing ionic surfactants
This study introduces a new approach to predict interfacial tension (IFT) at oil/water interfaces in the presence of ionic surfactants. Experimental data for sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS), decyltrimethylammonium bromide (C10TAB) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C12TAB) at hydrocarbon/water interfaces are used to validate the new approach. The model parameters, including molar surface area (ω) and bulk-surface distribution coefficient of surfactant (KS) are obtained by fitting the proposed equation to the literature data. The change of model parameters at different interfaces is discussed. In all cases investigated, th...

Comparison of the effects of various supporting electrolytes on the treatment of a dye solution by electrocoagulation process
Publication date: November 2019Source: Colloid and Interface Science Communications, Volume 33Author(s): Ramazan Keyikoglu, Orhan Taner Can, Ahmet Aygun, Ahu TekAbstractLaboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of some supporting electrolytes on the treatment of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) by electrocoagulation using aluminum and iron electrode couples. Electrolytes, which contain Cl−, SO42−, NO− anions and Na+, K+, NH4+ cations, were compared in terms of color removal efficiencies. The presence of SO42− led to poor performances with aluminum electrodes yielding a removal efficiency close to 45% at...

Effects of head group and counter-ion variation in cationic surfactants on the microstructures of EO-PO block copolymer micelles
This study reports the effect of several cationic surfactants namely C16TABr,C16TPPBr, C16TBPBr, C16PyBr, C16TACl and C16TATs, each with 16C long alkyl side chain but different counterions and head groups on the micellar behavior of an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide (EO-PO) linear triblock copolymer, Pluronic® 103 from cloud point (CP), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and small angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements. The solubilizing capacity of the mixed system was also checked for a poorly water soluble drug quercetin (QN). We show that cationic surfactants in the aqueous copolymeric system enhanced the surface cha...
