Cryptococcus gattii Causing New Deadly Fungal Infection
Cryptococcus gattii is a deadly fungal infection that has now been found in several states outside of the Pacific Northwest in a development that is perplexing to infectious disease physicians and public health officials. Zebrafish Research May Hold Cure for Seizure Disorder
Zebra fish may hold cure for seizure disorder according to a research study published by scientists at University of California, San Francisco. Adult female zebrafish Dr. Scott Baraban lead a team that tested 320 already approved drugs in zebrafish embryos that have the same genetic defect that causes Dravet syndrome, an condition of intractable seizures in infants. The researchers found that the antihistamine clemizole stopped the seizures within 10 minutes after the zebrafish were exposed to it. The couple, who purchased shares of the legendary Berkshire Hathaway, donated $135 million to Long Island College Hospital upon their death.
