Ethan is a hero-- he kept his helmet on and avoided a serious injury.
Meet Ethan.   He suffered a head injury while riding his bike. His forehead was bleeding profusely and his worried parents took him to the emergency room where he had a several x-rays taken.   Although his helmet was cracked in the accident, we are happy to report that his head injury was minor.   Ethan, we're glad that you were wearing your helmet!  Keep up the good work!Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words....if your child is resistant to wearing a helmet, perhaps Ethan's picture might help them see why it's important. Happy Memorial DayKindnessIn a long term research study of 400 “tweens” in Canada, scientists found that children who performed acts of kindness towards their peers had a greater level of acceptance.    Peers responded more positively and bullying incidents were reduced.  Kind children were chosen most often by others as a person other kids wanted to work with.None of us knows what another person may be going through in life.   It is important for us to teach our children that bullies often act out towards others because they are insecure themselves. Most bullying is in the form of teasing...

32 gigs of Memory
From the desk of Brittany Jimenez, RN    We often hear in the media how to limit smart or cell phone use in teens and young children, and the other potential dangers that smart phones may pose in brain development and in causing neck and back pain. But frankly, maybe we need to look at ourselves ‘the adults’, and see that we may be doing to harm the relationships in our lives that mean the most.    A recent study in the journal Pediatrics made some interesting observations regarding cell phone use- not use by young children or teens, but by their parents!!...

Don't Forget to Talk to your Baby
As parents, we are our child's first teacher.  That teaching begins at birth.  Baby and toddler brains are like sponges that soak up all the language we direct at them.   The earlier you start explaining the world to your baby, the better.  Talking, singing and  reading to your baby is essential, even before they can respond .  Research has shown that how much and how well you talk with your babies and toddlers directly effect how well they learn to speak.  Parents need to have conversations with their little ones.  Don't just say, "Doggie", but elaborate and sa...
