Happy Memorial Day
Did you know that the U.S. has military personnel in over 100 countries?  Whether helping victims of the Nepal earthquakes, the war in Afghanistan, the relief efforts to victims of disease and pestilence, they are there providing assistance. Wars, famine, natural disasters and disease will always be with us.   Our soldiers are asked to crawl through mud, endure blazing temperatures and risk their lives in their jobs.   This Memorial Day, we remember the fallen, celebrate those who have returned and pray for those who are still overseas.   All are heroes.   Thank you forour freed...

Screen time
Nurse Practitioner Kim GubbinsFrom the desk of Kim Gubbins, CPNP:As we know childhood obesity is on the rise and affecting many of our children. Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure are no longer adult problems but diseases that are now part of our children's risk factors. Keeping your child's healthcare costs down
Pediatric Health is open 7 days a week (including 3 evenings per week) to better serve our families, especially our moms and dads who may be working during the day or do not have transportation available to them at that time.  More importantly though, is to help our families keep their health care expenses to a minimum.   Co-pays and co-insurance generally increase when taking your child to the emergency room or to a convenient care center.  For many families, that means the $20 office co-pay is now $80 at the emergency room.  If you pay co-insurance, that 20% will be considerably more expensive as...

Measles in Illinois
The current measles cases that are in the United States have brought to the forefront concern about children who have not been vaccinated.  Back in 2000 the CDC declared that measles had been eliminated from the United States.  So why is it back?     Measles is still very common in many countries across the globe.  With air travel being readily available and fairly affordable tourists come from all over the world to visit the U.S.   Measles is so contagious that even if only one person has it, 90% of un-vaccinated persons who come into close contact will become infected. The disease ...

AAP Discourages the Legalization of Marijuana
There has been an on going discussion about the legalization of marijuana for medical or recreational use. These effects include impaired short term memory, decreased concentration, decreased attention span, lower IQ and decreased problem solving. These factors would clearly interfere with a teens ability to learn and thrive in...
