Flu Season Still in Full Swing
With flu season still in swing, it’s more important than ever to get that flu shot and practice good health behavior! As of the week ending on January 4, 2014 at least 35 states are now showing widespread geographic influenza activity according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition to the activity across the country, every state in the South Central Region is showing the highest level of influenza activity. Rollout of the ACA and Healthcare.gov in the SCR
As of January 1, 2014, many individuals have gained healthcare coverage through the Affordable Care Act via the Healthcare.gov website. Since October 1st there has been a constant stream of information and publicity about the continued roll out of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), aka “Obamacare” and the Healthcare.gov website. Chronic Conditions and Online Information Seeking

New AHRQ Health Literacy Tool for Patient Education Materials
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has created a new tool to “asses the understandability and actionability of print and audiovisual patient education materials”, entitled the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (or PEMAT). Recorded Maternal and Infant Health Presentation Available
On December 3, 2013 the NN/LM SCR office hosted a webinar entitled, Healthy Beginnings: Information Resources for Maternal and Infant Health. Geared towards public health professionals, this presentation showcased free Internet resources used to promote health education and better prenatal care. This webinar came about as a direct result of the NN/LM SCR’s Public Health Regional Advisory Council meeting .
