Natural History of De Novo Aneurysm Formation in Patients with Treated Aneurysmatic Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Ten-year Followup
De novo aneurysm formation after completely occluded aneurysms via clipping or coiling is generally not well studied. Although known to occur several years following initial aneurysm management, the natural history of de novo aneurysms is obscure. The current study investigated the formation of new aneurysms in patients who were previously treated for intracranial aneurysms. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

A Novel Microsurgical Procedure for Revascularization of the Vertebral Artery
A broad armamentarium of microsurgical techniques affords flexibility to surgeons when choosing a procedure that is best tailored to fit the anatomy of an individual. Herein, we report on the feasibility of utilizing the deep cervical artery (DCA) to revascularize the vertebral artery (VA) via a DCA-V3 bypass graft. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Observations from Social Media Regarding the Symptomatology of Adult Hydrocephalus Patients
Hydrocephalus patients experience symptoms related to hydrocephalus in an age-dependent manner. However, prevalence estimates of hydrocephalus symptoms in young and middle-aged (YMA) adult patients are rare and variable. Highlighting the importance of hydrocephalus symptom management, the persistence and intensity of headache or gait disturbance have been associated with signs of brain white matter integrity loss, including in treated YMA adult patients. Thus, it is important to ascertain which symptoms adult hydrocephalus patients report most to confirm their relative importance. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

NECROTIZING FASCIITIS INVOLVING THE SPINE: An unusual medical emergency for the spine surgeon
Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a surgical diagnosis characterized by a rapidly progressive soft tissue infection, widespread tissue necrosis, and associated systemic illness. Friability of the superficial fascia, dishwater-gray exudate, and absence of pus are surgical characteristics of this diagnosis. Due to the rapid progression of the infection, early recognition and aggressive surgical debridement are crucial to reduce mortality. Despite being commonly seen by general, plastic, and orthopedic surgeons, NF is an extremely rare spine surgery emergency. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Cranioplasty with porous hydroxyapatite custom-made bone flap: results from a multi-centre study enrolling 149 patients over 15 years
Despite the mixed evidence regarding the effect of decompressive craniectomy in terms of outcome, a tremendous increase in related papers has been observed in the last years. Cranioplasty plays a key role in restoring function and anatomy of the cranial vault. Considering that cranioplasty is not exempt from risks, the identification of the safest technique becomes crucial to achieve better patients ’ recovery. Porous hydroxyapatite (PHA) has received growing attention for its potential in bony integration. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Multiple-repeated adjacent segment disease after posterior lumbar interbody fusion
Although posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) has provided satisfactory clinical outcomes, adjacent segment disease (ASD) is one of the most important complications affecting long-term results. However, according ASD studies, few have described repeat surgery. The purpose of this study was to elucidate incidence, time period and clinical features of multiple-repeated ASD after PLIF. Comparison of survival outcomes between partial resection and biopsy for primary glioblastoma: a propensity score-matched study
Gross total resection for glioblastoma (GBM) is associated with better prognosis. However, it is not always feasible, and the threshold of the extent of resection required for better prognosis is controversial. Therefore, we compared the survival and clinical outcomes of GBM patients undergoing partial resection (PR) or biopsy. (Source: World Neurosurgery)
