No Disparity in Outcomes Between Surgical Clipping and Endovascular Coiling After Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) can be treated with either endovascular coiling or surgical clipping. The International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial (ISAT) found that endovascular coiling provided lower mortality rates at 1-year follow-up, starting a trend toward the endovascular treatment approach for SAH. Subsequently, specific procedural indications have driven an approach to SAH management involving a patient-specific procedural choice. The present study evaluates whether specific indications for these procedures have eliminated the differences in risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications from SAH i...

Quality of life after treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms
Quality of life is an important factor in the decision making for the treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA). The data dealing with QoL in patients after the treatment are spare. We have evaluated QoL of patients after endovascular or surgical treatment of incidental intracranial aneurysm. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Efficacy of Carotid Endarterectomy for Mild ( < 50%) Symptomatic Carotid Stenosis with Unstable Plaque
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is known to reduce stroke risk in patients with symptomatic, moderate to severe carotid stenosis, but have no apparent impact in patients with symptomatic, mild ( (Source: World Neurosurgery)

The value of head CT imaging following ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery in adults
Patients with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus often undergo multiple follow-up head computed tomography (CT) scans, increasing the risk for long term effects of ionizing radiation. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the necessity as routine diagnostic procedure and cost analysis of routine postoperative head CT scan after ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. 2-micron Continuous Wave Laser Assisted Neuroendoscopy: Clinical Experience of Two Institutions in 524 Procedures
The aim of this study is to present the clinical experience of two neurosurgical centers with the use of a 2-micron continuous wave laser (2 μ-cwL) system as standard tool in neuroendoscopic procedures and to discuss the safety and efficacy of this system. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Surgical treatment for primary brainstem hemorrhage to improve postoperative functional outcomes
It remains controversial whether primary brainstem hemorrhage (PBH) should be managed conservatively or treated promptly via surgical evacuation of the hematoma. In the present study, we discuss five cases with PBH which were treated surgically, as well as the ability of surgical management to improve postoperative functional outcomes. Clinical and Radiologic Features of Osteoporotic Spine Fracture with Delayed Neurologic Compromises
Osteoporotic spine fractures (OSFs) with delayed neurologic compromises (NCs) have been increasingly reported. Although several studies have addressed that the pathologic mechanism of NC involves nonunion and segmental instability, the risk factors remain unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the radiologic and clinical features of OSFs with delayed NC. (Source: World Neurosurgery)
