Three-Dimensional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Glenohumeral Dysplasia in Neonatal Brachial Plexus Palsy
Conclusions: Posterior humeral head displacement in NBPP should not be considered a simple "dislocation." Glenohumeral dysplasia is not limited to the axial plane. Abnormal glenoid declination may have potential implications for the evaluation and treatment of shoulder weakness and contractures. (Source: The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery)

Inflammation and Degeneration in Cartilage Samples from Patients with Femoroacetabular Impingement
Conclusions: Our results indicate that the metabolic conditions of articular cartilage in FAI and OA are different and that the expression of genes associated with inflammation is greater in the articular cartilage of patients with FAI compared with the synovium and the labrum. The metabolic changes were heightened by mechanical impingement. Clinical Relevance: The articular cartilage from the impingement lesion in patients with FAI showed biologically higher inflammation and degeneration, supporting the concept that FAI may be a trigger for joint degeneration. Passive Hip Range of Motion Predicts Femoral Torsion and Acetabular Version
Conclusions: This study confirmed that passive hip range of motion significantly predicts combined femoral torsion and central acetabular version. Accurate clinical assessment of the COTAV index may inform surgical decision-making in hip preservation surgery. (Source: The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery)

Quality of Life and Surgical Outcomes After Soft-Tissue Reconstruction of Complex Oncologic Defects of the Spine and Sacrum
Conclusions: Orthoplastic management of spinal tumors should involve a strategy for preoperative recognition of patients at risk of compromised wound-healing. Prophylactic soft-tissue reconstruction can achieve stable definitive wound closure and potentially avoid the need for secondary procedures in appropriately selected patients. Comparison of Three-Dimensional Planning-Assisted and Conventional Acetabular Cup Positioning in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusions: Preoperative 3-D planning increased the accuracy of anteversion restoration and reduced the percentage of outliers without increasing the operative time. In this study, the same advantage could not be demonstrated for abduction. Level of Evidence: Therapeutic Level I. See Instructions for Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence. Intra-Articular Osteotomy for Genu Valgum in the Knee with a Lateral Compartment Deficiency
Conclusions: In patients with a deficient lateral compartment of the knee, lateral femoral condylar advancement with or without hemiplateau elevation allowed correction of severe genu valgum without the creation of an oblique joint line. This technique allows correction of the overall mechanical axis, restoring both function and the cosmetic appearance of the limb. Level of Evidence: Therapeutic Level IV. The Effect of Workers Compensation Status on Outcomes of Cervical Disc Arthroplasty: A Prospective, Comparative, Observational Study
Conclusions: After cervical disc arthroplasty, patients receiving Workers’ Compensation had outcomes that were similar to those of patients not receiving Workers’ Compensation in terms of patient-reported outcomes, surgery-related complications, reoperations, and return-to-work status. Patients receiving Workers’ Compensation remained off work for a longer interval than did patients not receiving Workers’ Compensation. Level of Evidence: Prognostic Level II. Augmented Compared with Nonaugmented Surgical Repair After Total Achilles Rupture: Results of a Prospective Randomized Trial with Thirteen or More Years of Follow-up
Conclusions: Augmented repair of total Achilles tendon ruptures provided no advantage over simple end-to-end repair. Achilles tendon ruptures result in a permanent calf muscle strength deficit, but its clinical relevance remains unclear. Level of Evidence: Therapeutic Level I. Which Global Rating Scale?: A Comparison of the ASSET, BAKSSS, and IGARS for the Assessment of Simulated Arthroscopic Skills
Conclusions: No single global rating scale demonstrated superiority as an assessment tool. Clinical Relevance: For these commonly used arthroscopic global rating scales, none was particularly superior and any one score could therefore be used. Agreement on using a single score seems sensible, and it would seem unnecessary to develop further scales with the same domains for these purposes. (Source: The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery)
