The Myasthenia Gravis-specific Activities of Daily Living scale as a useful outcome measure and in routine clinical management in Polish patients
ConclusionWe confirmed reliability and dependability of the questionnaire in the the test-retest assessment. The MG-ADL is accepted to be a reliable and valuable tool for measuring disease-specific QOL in Polish patients with MG. (Source: Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery)

Cerebral vasomotor reactivity predicts the development of acute stroke in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis
ConclusionDecreased VMR value is an important prognostic factor for the occurrence of aortic atherosclerotic stroke, and can be used as a reference for preoperative hemodynamic evaluation in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis. (Source: Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery)

Intracerebral electroencephalography in targeting anterior thalamic nucleus for deep brain stimulation in refractory epilepsy
ConclusionThis is the first report of using DBS electrode for intraoperative EEG recordings from the ATN in patients with refractory epilepsy. Since we managed to find the characteristic pattern of bioelectric activity of ATN, this technique seems to be a promising method for targeting this structure during the operation. Primary isolated intracranial Rosai–Dorfman disease: Report of a rare case and review of the literature
ConclusionPrimary intracranial RDD, especially located in the cranial base, is exceptionally rare, which hard to be distinguished with meningoma by imageology and clinical manifestations, but could be diagnosed by pathological and immunohistochemical examinations. Surgery is of the most importance treatment and prognosis is optimistic for this disease. (Source: Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery)

Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy with transient global amnesia and cerebellar embolic stroke triggered by existential fear
ConclusionsTGA is not a disease for the neurologists exclusively but also cardiac comorbidities have to be considered and cardiologists should be involved in the acute care of these patients in order not to overlook life-threatening diseases. (Source: Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery)

Ventriculoperitoneal shunt treatment in a pregnant renal transplant recipient with idiopathic intracranial hypertension: Case report and review of the literature
We present a 38-year old primigravid renal transplant patient at 7 weeks of gestation who presented with 2 weeks of intense, throbbing, holocranial headache, nausea, vomiting, photophobia, diplopia and progressive visual loss. When medical treatment fails and/or not appropriate to use due to the reported of teratogenic risks in pregnant women, surgical interventions gain importance. In this particular patient, venticuloperitoneal shunt was chosen as the CSF diversion technique. In this case report indications, contraindications in addition to outcomes regarding headache, vision loss and the resolution of papilloedema of th...

This applies to a particular form of lymphoma that does not originally derive from the central nervous system (CNS); it can be both an isolated form of relapse or a systemic part of disease progression. Due to poor prognosis and a lack of established algorithms of therapeutic procedures, it ...

Looking for novel, brain-derived, peripheral biomarkers of neurological disorders
Publication date: May–June 2018Source: Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska, Volume 52, Issue 3Author(s): Natalia Chmielewska, Janusz Szyndler, Karolina Makowska, Dawid Wojtyna, Piotr Maciejak, Adam PłaźnikAbstractThe role of blood brain barrier (BBB) is to preserve a precisely regulated environment for proper neuronal signaling. In many of the central nervous system (CNS) pathologies, the function of BBB is altered. Thus, there is a necessity to evaluate a fast, noninvasive and reliable method for monitoring of BBB condition. It seems that revealing the peripheral diagnostic biomarker whose release pattern (concentratio...
