Living donor risk model for predicting kidney allograft and patient survival in an emerging economy
ConclusionsSimilar to findings in high income countries, our study suggests that donor characteristics such as age, nephron dose, creatinine clearance and HLA match are important factors that determine the long‐term patient and graft survival in low income countries. However, other crucial but undefined factors may play a role in determining the overall risk of graft failure and mortality in living kidney donor transplant recipients. (Source: Nephrology)

Association between daily haemodialysis, access to renal transplantation and patients' survival in France
ConclusionOur study showed that in France, the likelihood of undergoing renal transplantation after being waitlisted was lower for patients on daily haemodialysis than those on thrice‐weekly haemodialysis. Moreover, daily haemodialysis was associated with higher risk of death, even after taking into account age and all major comorbidities. (Source: Nephrology)

Changing survival of people with myeloma and end stage kidney disease: A cohort study using Australian and New Zealand dialysis and transplant registry 1963 –2013
ConclusionsThe proportion of people with myeloma and ESKD remains stable, but their survival has progressively improved in Australia and New Zealand. On starting ESKD treatment with myeloma, a 59 year old without diabetes on peritoneal dialysis can expect a 45% 5 year survival, where a 75‐year‐old diabetic on haemodialysis has 9% 5 year survival. Carbohydrate antigen 19 –9 is significantly elevated in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
ConclusionsSerum CA19–9 levels are significantly elevated and appear to be dependent on the gamma‐GTP levels and the volume of liver cysts in patients with ADPKD. Our findings indicate that the measurement of the baseline CA19–9 level in each patient with ADPKD may be useful for the interpretation of the value and the differential diagnosis of liver diseases, particularly the liver cyst infection. What we do and do not know about women and kidney diseases – questions unanswered and answers unquestioned: Reflection on World Kidney Day and International Woman’s Day
ABSTRACT
Chronic kidney disease affects approximately 10% of the world’s adult population: it is within the top 20 causes of death worldwide, and its impact on patients and their families can be devastating. World Kidney Day and International Women’s Day in 2018 coincide, thus offering an opportunity to reflect on the importance of women’s health and specifically their kidney health, on the community, and the next generations, as well as to strive to be more curious about the unique aspects of kidney disease in women so that we may apply those learnings more broadly. Girls and women, who make up approximately 50% of ...

Deleterious Effect of Anti ‐Angiotensin II Type 1 Receptor Antibodies Detected Pretransplant on Kidney Graft Outcomes is Both Proper and Synergistic WITH DONOR‐SPECIFIC ANTI‐HLA ANTIBODIES
ConclusionsAR incidence and graft failure were associated with both DSA and AT1R‐abs. These results demonstrate a proper negative effect of AT1R‐abs on graft outcomes, besides a synergistic one with DSA. Pretransplant AT1R‐abs should be acknowledge to better stratify patients’ immunological risk. (Source: Nephrology)
