Attachment Styles in College Students and Depression: The Mediating Role of Self Differentiation
This study explored the role of self-differentiation as a possible mediator between insecure attachment in romantic relationships and depressive symptoms among a sample of 175 college undergraduates. Participants completed the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECRS), the Differentiation of Self Inventory (DSI), and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Preacher and Hayes’ (2008) test for indirect effects was used to test the mediational model. As hypothesized, degree of insecure attachment predicted depressive symptoms through affect regulation. Implications of results in regards to men...

The association of maltreatment and socially deviant behavior––Findings from a national study with adolescent students and their parents
In this study, we assessed adolescents’ exposure to violence and maltreatment as well as their socially deviant behavior in a national sample of 700 adolescent students in Tanzania (52% girls). In addition to adolescents’ self-reports, we also included their parents’ perspective (N = 332, 53% females). After controlling for other risk factors, we found significant positive associations between emotional violence by teachers, as well as neglect, emotional and physical violence by parents with adolescents’ self-reported delinquent and rule breaking behavior. Positive associations were also found between self-repo...

Predicting Student-Athlete and Non-Athletes’ Intentions to Self-Manage Mental Health: Testing an Integrated Behaviour Change Model.
The objective of this study was to assess the factorial and predictive validity of an Integrated Behaviour Change (IBC) model (Hagger & Chatzarantis, 2014) for predicting Higher Education (HE) student-athlete and non-athletes’ intentions to self-manage mental health. Students (n=200) aged 21.10 (SD= 3.73; male = 53%; athlete =69%) completed a questionnaire, and a two-step model building approach was conducted (i.e. confirmatory factor [CFA] and path analysis). Demographic (i.e. female or male; athlete or non-athlete) and IBC (i.e. autonomous and controlled motivation, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control a...
