Effect of high ‐frequency near‐infrared diode laser irradiation on periodontal tissues during experimental tooth movement in rats
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that high‐frequency near‐infrared diode laser irradiation of periodontal tissue leads to metabolic activation, which ultimately increases the rate of tooth movement. Lasers Surg. Med. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. (Source: Lasers in Surgery and Medicine)

Effects of myogenic precursor cells (C2C12) transplantation and low ‐level laser therapy on muscle repair
ConclusionCell transplantation combined with PBMT led to an increase in the number of blood vessels, a reduction in myonecrosis and total inflammatory cells as well as better organization of collagen fibers during the skeletal muscle repair process. Photodynamic therapy: Promoting in vitro efficacy of photodynamic therapy by liposomal formulations of a photosensitizing agent
In this study, liposomal formulations were used to direct photodamage created by benzoporphyrin derivative (BPD, Verteporfin) to lysosomes, mitochondria and the ER. This resulted in the development of an optimal targeting profile using a single agent and a single wavelength of activating irradiation. Materials/MethodsThese studies were carried out in monolayer cultures of OVCAR5 tumor cells. BPD localization was modified by lipid anchoring and formulation in liposomes, and was assessed by fluorescence microscopy. Irradiation was carried out at 690 ± 10 nm with photodamage assessed also using fluorescent probes and m...

Role of cell stress signaling networks in cancer cell death and antitumor immune response following proteotoxic injury inflicted by photodynamic therapy
The insult delivered by photodynamic therapy (PDT) in treated cells is oxidative stress. The main burden threatening survival of PDT‐treated cells is proteotoxic damage that jeopardizes proteostasis in these cells. For dealing with this type of proteostasis impairment, cells have developed protection mechanisms operating by signaling networks. This review will outline various components of signaling networks that can be engaged in stressed cells with highlighting the emerging aspects relevant to response to PDT. It will be also shown how the well known inflammatory/immune response associated with PDT is also based on the...

Upregulation of nitric oxide in tumor cells as a negative adaptation to photodynamic therapy
One of the advantages of PDT is that it can often circumvent tumor resistance to chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin and doxorubicin. However, pre‐existing and acquired resistance to PDT has also been demonstrated. One type of resistance, which involves nitric oxide (NO) generated by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS/NOS2) in tumor cells, was discovered in the author's laboratory. When subjected to a 5‐aminolevulinic acid (ALA)‐based photodynamic challenge, several cancer lines, including breast, prostate, and glioma, underwent intrinsic apoptosis that could be substantially enhanced by iNOS enzymatic inhib...
