Engaging critical community resilience praxis: A qualitative study with Mapuche communities in Chile facing structural racism and disasters
This study aimed to engage critical theories and examine resilience processes from indigenous perspectives while exploring the impact of racism, intersecting adversities, and ongoing decolonial struggles in Mapuche communities. Decolonial qualitative methods, situational analysis, and community‐engaged participatory approaches were utilized in application of a critical community resilience praxis (CCRP). “They're hoping we can stop it”: Student leadership in sexual violence intervention and response at West Point
This study identified risks and opportunities in peer leadership approaches to sexual violence intervention and response. Constructivist grounded theory was used to analyze semistructured interviews with 24 cadets, including a bystander intervention scenario. With regard to bystander intervention, cadets adhered to gendered assumptions that blocked action, drew upon community values to plan intervention, and thus prepared in ways that reinforced gender biases. With regard to incident response, cadets struggled with cynicism regarding their role in addressing sexual assault, but wanted incidents to be reported despite victi...

A framework of Afrocentric hope: Rural South African children's conceptualizations of hope
Abstract There is a growing need to explore and understand indigenous knowledge and subjective experiences around hope from children raised in rural African communities. This engagement sought to address the question: What are rural South African primary school children's conceptualizations of hope? A visual participatory methodology (using collage‐making, drawing, Mmogo method, and photovoice) enabled an exploration of hope with 12 children (9‐13 years) attending an aftercare center in rural QwaQwa region of South Africa. Using evidence generated from the study, and drawing on Scioli's theory of integrated hope, this ...
