Using photovoice to treat trauma resulting from gender ‐based violence
Abstract
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how photovoice action research (PVAR) aimed at addressing gender‐based violence (GBV) also responds to trauma resulting from GBV. I conducted a content analysis of 17 publications that use PVAR to address GBV to assess for how the PVAR projects also treat trauma symptoms. Briere and Scott's (2015) philosophical approach to trauma therapy is the conceptual framework for data analysis. Backpackers in the Nepal 2015 earthquake: The contribution of personal and social resources to mental health
In this study, we focused specifically on backpackers who were in Nepal at the time of the 2015 earthquake, and survived. Our aim was to estimate factors that protect a backpacker's mental health after an earthquake, to deepen social workers’ knowledge regarding potential effective interventions. Based on the conservation of resources theory, we examined the contribution of optimism, emotion regulation, as well as the support of family and friends to backpackers’ mental health.
