Comparison of Myelin-Associated Glycoprotein and Vincristine for Nerve Inhibition in a Transgenic Thy1-Gfp Rat Model
This laboratory animal experiment assesses whether myelin-associated glycoprotein, a specific neuroinhibitor, can prevent neuroregeneration with efficacy comparable with that of vincristine, a well-established neurotoxin, and a saline control treatment. (Source: JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery)

The Use of Racial and Ethnic Terms
To the Editor We wish to make some comments on the excellent article by Darrach et al. Specifically, we want to state our point of view regarding scientific accuracy when using terms such as race, ethnicity, and Latin American race. The termsrace andethnicity are used interchangeably in the article; however, anthropological publications consistently describe race as being biological and referring to the physical characteristics of a person, while ethnicity is a construct in social science that describes a person ’s cultural identity. The Use of Racial and Ethnic Terms —In Reply
In Reply We thank Dr Benavides and Mr Gallo for their response to our article; we concur with the points brought forward and believe their recommendations are essential for future studies. Race and ethnicity are 2 separate identifiers and prone to misuse. We were aware of this issue in constructing our study and elected to compare our 2 cohorts equivalently —white/Caucasian (race) and Hispanic/Latino (ethnicity)—owing in part to the self-identification patterns of our participants and the country in which we conducted our study. Simplifying Mandible Fracture Repair
Repairing mandible fractures is difficult. Contemporary treatment of a displaced or symptomatic fracture often includes open reduction of the fracture and internal fixation with plates and screws. Rigid or semirigid internal fixation typically eliminates the need for prolonged maxillomandibular fixation, which makes postoperative recovery easier for the patient. Reconstruction plates at least 2 mm thick are known to reliably withstand mastication forces and stabilize fractures to facilitate bony healing. (Source: JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery)
