Are orthodontic landmarks and variables in digital cephalometric radiography taken in fixed and natural head positions reliable?
ConclusionsCephalometric landmarks and variables showed reliability in digital lateral cephalometric radiography in fixed and natural head position.

Distribution and amount of stresses caused by insertion or removal of orthodontic miniscrews into the maxillary bone: A finite element analysis
ConclusionMost of the stress and strain is tolerated by the cortical bone and not the cancellous one. Using cylindrical miniscrews might be more bone-friendly.

The relation between dental age and cervical vertebral maturation in orthodontic patients aged 8 to 16 years: A cross-sectional study

Variation of upper lip pressure on upper teeth during non-extraction orthodontic treatment: A prospective clinical study

Pharyngeal dimensional changes in class II malocclusion treatment when using Forsus® or intermaxillary elastics – An exploratory study
ConclusionsBoth orthodontic treatment approaches appear to be associated with a similar increase in oropharyngeal airway dimensions. Male patients under 14-year-old had a greater significant increase compared to female patients and older children.

Evaluation of upper airway volume and craniofacial volumetric structures in obstructive sleep apnoea adults: A descriptive CBCT study

First premolar extractions in an adolescent presenting a Class I biprotrusion malocclusion with skeletal Class II: A case report
Publication date: Available online 31 August 2019Source: International OrthodonticsAuthor(s): Frédéric Rafflenbeul, Hadrien Bonomi-Dunoyer, Thibaut Siebert, Yves BolenderSummaryThis case report shows the orthodontic treatment of four first premolar extractions of a 14-year-old teenager presenting a dental Class I malocclusion with a severe retrognathic mandible. It reflects conflicting views on objectives between the orthodontist who takes into account the facial balance and the patient who only desires a tooth alignment.RésuméCe cas clinique montre le traitement d’un patient de 14 ans présentant une malocclusion d...

The effect of cigarette smoke on the shear bond strength of metallic and ceramic orthodontic brackets: An in vitro study
ConclusionCigarette smoke consumption has significant effects on the SBS of orthodontic brackets. SBS levels were significantly lower in the smoke exposure groups and the lowest values corresponded to the cigarette smoke exposed metallic brackets.RésuméObjectifL’adhérence entre l’émail et la base de l’attache est influencée par l’exposition à l’environnement oral.

Impact of adhesive system generation and light curing units on orthodontic bonding: In vitro study
ConclusionFourth and fifth GASs showed similar SBS higher than seventh GAS. Fourth GAS bonds were able to resist longer against traction forces than those set up by fifth generation. Seventh GAS bonds offered the least efficient resistance. ARI = 0 was the highest in group 1. However, Group 4 showed the highest ARI = 1 and ARI = 2 revealing cohesive failure. We also found that the adhesive power is proportional to the power of the lamp used. In fact, we concluded that 1500 mw/cm2 units light curing during 30 seconds generated an ideal energy to enhance orthodontic bracket adhesion.Résum...

Dental and skeletal changes associated with the Damon system philosophical approach
ConclusionThere is not enough evidence to support the claim that the Damon system allows additional arch expansion with better tipping control than with traditional techniques.RésuméObjectifComparer les changements squelettiques et dento-alvéolaires produits par la philosophie de traitement du système Damon à ceux produits par les techniques traditionnelles de traitement orthodontique.

Evaluation of the reliability of a practical digital dental X-ray method for the first metacarpophalangeal joint to assist the skeletal age in peripubertal orthodontic period
This study aimed to evaluate the validity of using of digital dental X-ray for the thumb region in assessment of skeletal maturation stage around functional orthodontic treatment time.Materials and methodsThe sample consisted of 200 patients (100 males and 100 females) aged between (9.5–18) years. Each patient underwent a hand-wrist radiograph and a digital radiograph for the thumb region taken by a dental X-ray machine. Skeletal changes were studied in the sesamoid bone and first Metacarpophalangeal joint region, and compared to Björk method.ResultsGood correlation was noted between our thumb method stages (Th index) a...
