Measuring the hierarchical general factor model of psychopathology in young adults
Abstract There is evidence that models of psychopathology specifying a general factor and specific second‐order factors fit better than competing structural models. Nonetheless, additional tests are needed to examine the generality and boundaries of the general factor model. In a selected second wave of a cohort study, first‐order dimensions of psychopathology symptoms in 499 23‐ to 31‐year‐old twins were analyzed. Using confirmatory factor analysis, a bifactor model specifying a general factor and specific internalizing and externalizing factors fit better than competing models. Factor loadings in this model wer...

Screening for trauma ‐related symptoms via a smartphone app: The validity of Smart Assessment on your Mobile in referred police officers
In this study, we examined whether SAM was able to accurately identify posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression in adults. Eighty‐nine referred police officers completed SAM, containing the PTSD Checklist for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)‐5 (PCL‐5) and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS‐21), on their own device prior to a diagnostic interview where the Clinician‐Administered PTSD Scale for DSM‐5 (CAPS‐5) and Structured Clinical Interview for DSM‐IV (SCID‐I/P) were administered. Results showed a substantial agreement between SAM and the diagnostic intervi...

Daily fluctuation of emotions and memories thereof: Design and methods of an experience sampling study of major depression, social phobia, and controls
Abstract Symptom fluctuations and the dynamic contexts provoking these are poorly understood. This deficit is compounded by people's limited ability to accurately report about such dimensions in retrospect. Utilizing the advantages of experience sampling methodology (ESM), this study rigorously describes and tests proximal environmental, neurobiological and psychological factors associated with symptoms and mood states. Participants were assigned to three diagnostic groups: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD; n = 118), Social Phobia (SP; n = 47), or a Control Group without SP or MDD (CG; n = 119). Laboratory assessments ...
