A systematic review of sexual satisfaction
In conclusion, we observed that sexual satisfaction is a key factor in individuals’ sexual health and overall well-being. However, despite its importance, there is a lack of theoretical models combining the most important factors to explain sexual satisfaction. Performance evaluation of recent information criteria for selecting multilevel models in Behavioral and Social Sciences
This study was designed to find the best strategy for selecting the correct multilevel model among several alternatives taking into account variables such as intraclass correlation, number of groups (m), group size (n), or others as parameter values and intercept-slope covariance. First, we examine this question in a simulation study and second, to illustrate the behavior of the criteria and to explore the generalizability of the findings, a previously published educational dataset is analyzed. The results showed that none of the selection criteria behaved correctly under all the conditions or was consistently better than ...

Cognitive-behavioral treatment and antidepressants combined with virtual reality exposure for patients with chronic agoraphobia
In this study we compared the efficacy of virtual reality exposure combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy (VRET) to that of traditional cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) alone in reducing phobic symptoms in a sample of patients with long-term agoraphobia. The study was a between-subject design with three experimental conditions (VRET group, N =30; CBT group, N =30; and medication only group, N =20) and repeated measures (pre-treatment, post-treatment, and six-month follow-up). All patients were receiving antidepressant medication. Results showed that all therapies were statistically effective both at post-treatment an...

Generalization of theory-based predictions for improved nutrition to adults with morbid obesity: Implications of initiating exercise
Publication date: January 2014 Source:International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, Volume 14, Issue 1 Author(s): James J. Annesi , Gisèle A. Tennant Exercise is a robust predictor of long-term success with weight loss, and research based on social cognitive theory suggests that exercise program-induced changes in self-regulation, mood, and self-efficacy transfer to improved eating. These relationships were tested in adults with morbid obesity (overall M age = 43 years; 86% female; M body mass index = 45kg/m2) participating in a 6-month treatment of cognitive-behaviorally supported exercise paired with ei...

The meaning of the h-index
Publication date: May 2014 Source:International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, Volume 14, Issue 2 Author(s): J.E. Hirsch , Gualberto Buela-Casal The h-index originates from the assumption that the number of citations received by a scientist is a better indicator of the relevance of his or her work than the number of papers he or she publishes or the journals where they are published. It takes into account the number of papers published and the citations to those papers in a balanced way, and thus is useful to make comparisons between scientists. The present paper addresses the most frequent questions abou...

The “impact factor style of thinking”: A new theoretical framework
Publication date: May 2014 Source:International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, Volume 14, Issue 2 Author(s): Luis Fernández-Ríos , Javier Rodríguez-Díaz Over the last few years, university policy in developed countries has placed too much emphasis on assessing publications on the basis of the impact factor. Any scientific material that has not been published in a journal indexed in the Journal Citation Reports is academically irrelevant. Hence, researchers strive hard to publish in such journals. Failure to achieve this means not having a successful career or receiving any academic recognition. A thor...

Treatment-resistant depression: A systematic review of systematic reviews
The objective of this research study was to assess pharmacological, somatic and/or psychological treatments in adults with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder who have not responded to at least one course of antidepressant medication. We conducted a systematic review to identify systematic scientific reviews and meta-analyses on treatment-resistant depression (TRD) published until February 2012. Of the sixty studies selected, sixteen met the inclusion criteria and were therefore included in the review. We considered eight main themes, including the definition of TRD, long-term results, and different treatment strategi...

Psychometric properties of a Spanish version of the Dyadic Adjustment Scale
The objective of this study is to determine some psychometric properties of a Spanish DAS version on a sample of 915 participants: 403 who requested couple therapy, and 512 who did not request therapy. Results support the reliability of the instrument for both subsamples. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a four-factor internal structure that corresponds to the one proposed by the author of the original scale. Furthermore, the Spanish DAS has high discriminant power between both subsamples, and presents as a valid and reliable instrument to measure marital quality in Spanish couples who request couple therapy and tho...
