Liver Stiffness Measurements in Patients with Noncirrhotic Portal Hypertension —The Devil Is in the Details
Noncirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH) is often a diagnostic challenge due to signs and symptoms of portal hypertension that overlap with cirrhosis. The etiology of NCPH is broadly classified as prehepatic, hepatic (presinusoidal and sinusoidal) and posthepatic.#hep30167-bib-0001 Some common etiologies of NCPH encountered in clinical practice include portal vein thrombosis (prehepatic) and nodular regenerative hyperplasia (hepatic). Liver histology, although considered gold standard to exclude cirrhosis in individuals with suspected NCPH, is often limited by subtle histologic features or inadequate sampling. Liver stiffne...

Prospective Intraindividual Comparison of Magnetic Resonance Imaging With Gadoxetic Acid and Extracellular Contrast for Diagnosis of Hepatocellular Carcinomas Using the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System
Conclusion: ECA ‐MRI showed better sensitivity and accuracy than HBA‐MRI for the diagnosis of HCC with LI‐RADS. We achieved better diagnostic performance when applying a modified washout on PVP/TP HBA‐MRI and an illusional washout on ECA‐MRI than we did with conventional criteria. (Source: Hepatology)

HSD17B13 is a Hepatic Retinol Dehydrogenase Associated with Histological Features of Non ‐Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
In conclusion, we demonstrate the association of variants inHSD17B13 with specific features of NAFLD histology, and identify the enzyme as a lipid droplet ‐associated RDH. Our data suggest that HSD17B13 plays a role in NAFLD through its enzymatic activity. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Hepatology)

Intestinal immune dysregulation driven by dysbiosis promotes barrier disruption and bacterial translocation in rats with cirrhosis
Conclusion: The intestinal mucosa of rats with cirrhosis acquires a proinflammatory profile of immune dysregulation that parallels the severity of cirrhosis. This impaired intestinal immune response is driven by gut dysbiosis and leads to disrupted barrier function, promoting GBT.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
