Staging of third molar development in relation to chronological age of 5-16 year old indian children
Age estimation of juveniles and adolescents is commonly required in most civilized countries, since age thresholds of social or legal relevance lie between ages 12 to 25. While the developmental process of teeth is one of the most valuable biomarkers for age estimation in childhood, the accuracy inevitably decreases in adolescence, when the development of teeth is nearly completed. During this period, roughly between the middle teens and early 20s, all the hand-wrist bones have achieved their adult morphologies and their epiphyses have fused and the onset of secondary sex characteristics has occurred. Exocranial surfaces for sex assessment of the human cranium
One of the first steps in identification of skeletal remains is sex assessment. Determination of sex provides important background for establishing a biological profile with information on age at death, stature, and ancestry of remains [1]. It is possible to evaluate different sexual dimorphic traits on various bones and classify them as masculine or feminine. In general, the highest degree of sexual dimorphism is exhibited in the pelvic bone, which responds with evolutionary adaptation to bipedal locomotion [2] and birth mechanisms, enabling parturition of children with relatively big brains [3 –6]. Cocaine classification using alkaloid and residual solvent profiling
Statistical classification of illicit drug profiles is used to determine whether two profiles (seizures) originate from the same production batch [1 –8]. Such knowledge can be used as evidence in police investigations and in court, and may also have great importance for the person being prosecuted during the sentencing [9].
