Faster return to job and sports after antegrade plate insertion in minimally invasive plating of distal tibia fractures
Conclusions Both modes of plate insertion were safe and effective in treating distal tibia fractures. Antegrade plate insertion minimizes additional trauma to the already traumatized zone, showed less complications, and better functional results. Faster return to job and sports support antegrade plate insertion to be preferred for athletic persons. A prospective comparative study is recommended. Fine needle aspiration cytology versus core needle biopsy in the diagnosis of primary bone tumors: a retrospective study
Conclusion In our study, CNB was found to have superior diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, NPV, and specific diagnostic rates when compared to FNAC in diagnosing primary bone tumors. Therefore, CNB emerged as a safe and cost-effective method of diagnosis in bone tumors, although the combined efficiency of both the procedures in our setup needs to be explored further. Posterior capsular release and coracoid transfer for cases of neglected locked anterior shoulder dislocation in tramadol addicts
Discussion The results obtained support our hypothesis that, Latarjet procedure provides a stable and functional glenohumeral joint in cases of neglected anterior shoulder dislocation. (Source: European Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

How much hamstring graft needs to be in the femoral tunnel? A MOON cohort study
Conclusions Variation of the length of hamstring autograft in the femoral tunnel between 14 and 35 mm does not predict KOOS or IKDC scores at 2 years postoperative. (Source: European Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

Primary vertebral epithelioid angiossarcoma—a rare case report and systematic literature review
Abstract Epithelioid angiosarcoma (EA) of bone is a very uncommon high-grade sarcoma with an unpredictable clinical course, high metastasis rate and poor prognosis. It is extremely rare in the spine. Delayed or missed diagnosis is frequent, and histological and immunohistochemical confirmation of diagnosis is essential. Only few cases of epithelioid angiosarcoma of the spine are described. Recommended treatment is wide en bloc resection with or without adjuvants. We first performed a systematic review and included eight papers on vertebral EA (from 48 titles). In two cases, a total en bloc resection with ...

Non-vascularized fibula and corticocancellous bone grafting for gap nonunion of lower limb—retrospective study of 18 cases—an age old technique revisited
Conclusion The age-old method of non-vascularized fibula with autogenous corticocancellous bone grafting is a good method for treating nonunion, but patient selection as well as good bone grafting, rigid stability with an absence of infection, and good surrounding soft tissue vitality is mandatory for achieving success. Biological internal fixation of comminuted femur shaft fractures by bridge plating in adults
Abstract Fractures of the femoral shaft are not uncommon. Forty-one comminuted femoral shaft fractures were treated with biological bridging plating technique. The mean duration required reaching a grade 2 callus formation on radiographic examination, to allow partial assisted weight bearing, was 9 weeks (8.5–12 weeks). In all but three cases, the fractures healed without complications. In the three poor cases, inadequate reduction and angulation required revision surgery and were considered as failure. Based on the results, biological fixation by a bridge plate could be an option for management of ...

Thoracoscopic interbody fusion with percutaneous posterior stabilization for thoracic and thoracolumbar injuries
Conclusion Combined anterior thoracoscopic fusion and short-segment posterior percutaneous instrumentation showed good clinical and radiographic outcomes in cases of thoracolumbar injuries through limiting the instrumented levels and preventing progress of posttraumatic kyphosis. Conclusion Despite the high rate of complications, the Ilizarov technique was found to be effective in the treatment of infected femoral nonunion as it allowed simultaneous treatment of bone loss, nonunion, infection, shortening, and deformity. (Source: European Orthopaedics and Traumatology)

A metastatic gastric tumor originating from a pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the extremity: a case report and literature review
Abstract Pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive variant of rhabdomyosarcoma that usually occurs only in adults aged 45 years or older. Gastric metastasis from a soft-tissue sarcoma of the extremity is likewise very rare, with only a few previously reported cases. Here, we describe the case of a 52-year-old man with gastric metastasis who underwent en bloc excision of the primary tumor and distal gastrectomy but died 6 months after surgery due to lung metastases. This is, to our knowledge, the first reported case of gastric metastasis from pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the extremity. I...

Factors contributing to the failure of conservative treatment for acetabular labrum tears
Conclusion We identified a torn ligamentum teres as a factor contributing to the poor response to conservative treatment. Patients with a torn ligamentum teres develop subtle hip microinstability. Such microinstability may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of intra-articular lesions of the hip joint. (Source: European Orthopaedics and Traumatology)
