Abnormal scattergrams and cell population data generated by fully automated hematological analyzers: New tools for screening malaria infection?
ConclusionThe peculiar abnormalities observed in CPDs, WDF, and WNR‐scattergrams may raise a definite suspicion of Malaria infection. Further studies should then be planned for validating these preliminary findings and assessing whether these specific abnormalities may be incorporated in rapid and inexpensive Malaria diagnostic algorithms. Optimisation of antithrombin resistance assay as a practical clinical laboratory test: Development of prothrombin activator using factors Xa/Va and automation of assay
ConclusionWe optimised the ATR assay with the FXa/Va activator and adapted the assay for ACL TOP 500; the assay showed the ability to clearly detect antithrombin‐resistant prothrombin in manual and automated procedures. (Source: Clinical and Laboratory Haematology)

The utility of bone marrow sampling in the diagnosis and staging of lymphoma in South Africa
ConclusionIn the South African public sector, high HIV prevalence leads to a different lymphoma pathology profile from the developed world. High BMI rates are encountered. Here, and in similar resource‐constrained settings, international lymphoma staging guidelines can be logistically challenging and unaffordable. BMB remains useful in the staging and diagnosis of lymphoma. Unilateral sampling with a processed trephine length of at least 26 mm is recommended. (Source: Clinical and Laboratory Haematology)

Pre ‐analytical stability of coagulation parameters in plasma stored at room temperature
ConclusionOverall, compared to the limits given by the current CLSI guidelines, for most coagulation parameters investigated in this study a longer storage period could be accepted. Time intervals for FVIII and FV dosage were shorter than recommended by the CLSI guidelines. For PT determination, our findings were consistent. (Source: Clinical and Laboratory Haematology)

VIIaAT complexes, procoagulant phospholipids, and thrombin generation during postprandial lipemia
ConclusionViewing VIIaAT quantitation as a surrogate for TF activity measurement, postprandial increase in VIIaAT may reflect a mechanism that adds to the cardiovascular risk associated with postprandial lipemia. On the other hand, the impact of postprandial lipemia on PPL activity and thrombin generation seems to be minor. (Source: Clinical and Laboratory Haematology)
