High blood lead concentrations in captive Tasmanian devils (Sarcophilus harrisii): a threat to the conservation of the species?
ConclusionThis study highlights the need to ensure meat fed to captive carnivores is not contaminated by lead, especially in the context of a conservation program breeding individuals in captivity, as for Tasmanian devils. (Source: Australian Veterinary Journal)

Combined transverse femoral ostectomy and tibial tuberosity distalisation for correction of medial patella luxation and patella alta in dogs
ConclusionA combined transverse femoral ostectomy and tibial tuberosity distalisation technique resolved medial patella luxation with patella alta in two dogs. Additionally, the normal A  : P reference interval should be corrected to 1.52–2.44. (Source: Australian Veterinary Journal)

Magnetic resonance and radiographic imaging of a case of bilateral bipartite navicular bones in a horse
ConclusionKnowledge of these additional changes influenced prognostication in this case and provides an explanation for why this condition usually results in such a poor prognosis for the return to previous levels of performance in athletic patients. (Source: Australian Veterinary Journal)

Implications of shunt morphology for the surgical management of extrahepatic portosystemic shunts
ConclusionsFindings confirmed that for the common types of extrahepatic portosystemic shunts there were only four consistent sites of communication between the shunt and the systemic venous system. This information supports the use of a systematic approach for the location and attenuation of shunts in dogs and cats. (Source: Australian Veterinary Journal)

Baseline morphometric, haematological and plasma biochemical parameters in free ‐ranging eastern water dragons (Intellagama lesueurii lesueurii)
ConclusionMultiple parameters exhibited normal physiological variation between season and sex and an interaction between the two factors. These variables need to be considered in the clinical context when interpreting results of haematological and biochemical analyses in eastern water dragons. The RIs established from this population will provide a basis for further studies in both free ‐living and captive eastern water dragons, and for comparison in clinical cases.
