Electric pulp test threshold responses in healthy incisors, canines, premolars and molars
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the range of threshold responses of healthy dental pulps and test the reproducibility of the electric pulp test (EPT). Forty‐nine dental students participated in the study. Sound teeth in both arches, except third molars, were included. The teeth were isolated using cotton rolls and dried with compressed air, and the threshold responses were recorded. Participants stopped the stimulus increase by pressing the switch at the first sensation of discomfort. The measurements were repeated after 30 days. The obtained data were analysed using SPSS®16.0. The mean thresholds f...

Diagnosis of vertical root fractures in endodontically treated teeth utilising Digital Subtraction Radiography: A case series report
Abstract
Vertical root fractures are commonly associated with root‐filled teeth. Diagnosis is challenging because the clinical signs are not completely pathognomonic, and conventional periapical radiography is often unreliable. Digital subtraction radiography (DSR) is able to detect small radiographic changes between two successive radiographs by subtracting out consistent radiographic elements. Its use could possibly assist in the diagnostic procedure. Four cases are presented to demonstrate the potential use of DSR in the detection of vertical root fractures in endodontically treated teeth. After the digital subtractio...

Antimicrobial properties of calcium hydroxide dressing when used for long ‐term application: A systematic review
Abstract
This review aims to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of calcium hydroxide against endodontic pathogens when used for 7 days or longer. A systematic electronic literature search was performed in the PubMed, Embase and EBSCO Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source databases using appropriate key words to identify investigations written in the English language that examined the association between the contact time of intracanal calcium hydroxide dressing and its antimicrobial properties. There were no exclusions based on study design. The search yielded 6993 publications. After duplicate removal, 5913 publications we...

Evaluation of the influence of time and concentration of sodium hypochlorite on the bond strength of glass fibre post
This study evaluated the effect of time and concentrations of sodium hypochlorite on the bond strength of a glass fibre post cemented in a root canal with resin cement. A total of 45 single‐rooted extracted human teeth were prepared with Protaper® universal files, randomly allocated into nine groups and then subjected to 1% or 4% NaOCl for a period of 1 min or 2 min. Fibre posts were then bonded into the root canal, sectioned and the bond strength tested using a push‐out test. A longer irrigation time resulted in a significant reduction (P < 0.05) in bond strength, while a final additional irrigation with distilled...
