Fostering a culture of research within a clinical radiation oncology department
ConclusionsBy responding to the barriers of staff (such as time, expertise and ideas) with structural and personal enablers, as well as funded resources, it is possible to develop research capacity and confidence in a clinical setting. (Source: Australasian Radiology)

Functional airway obstruction observed with hyperpolarized 129Xenon ‐MRI
Summary Hyperpolarized 129Xenon‐MRI (HP 129Xe MRI) is an emerging imaging modality that allows assessment of both ventilation and gas transfer. Most research to date has focused on non‐malignant pulmonary diseases. However, the capability of evaluating the two primary physiological processes of the lung (ventilation and gas transfer) makes HP 129Xe MRI a promising imaging modality in the management of patients with lung cancer. Hypothenar hammer syndrome in an office worker
Summary Hypothenar hammer syndrome (HHS) is an uncommon cause of unilateral Raynaud's phenomenon, splinter haemorrhages and hypothenar weakness. The typical patient is a male blue‐collar worker who uses their hypothenar eminence to hammer objects as part of their work. The distal ulnar artery beyond Guyon's canal is superficial and vulnerable to blunt trauma. CTA and MRA are common initial investigations and can suggest the diagnosis. DSA is the gold standard imaging modality and offers therapeutic opportunities. Management is controversial, but unless there is critical digital ischaemia, conservative treatment is first ...

Intravenous lobular capillary haemangioma (pyogenic granuloma): A case report and a review of imaging findings as reported in the literature
ConclusionIntravenous lobular capillary haemangioma has distinctive ultrasound but less consistent MRI features although radiological diagnosis should usually be possible. Review of reported cases shows that a previously described gender bias is incorrect. (Source: Australasian Radiology)

Comparison of patient ‐reported acute urinary and sexual toxicity scores in a 6‐ versus 2‐fraction course of high‐dose‐rate prostate brachytherapy monotherapy
ConclusionNo increased acute genitourinary or sexual dysfunction has been observed in men when transitioning from 6‐fraction to 2‐fraction HDR monotherapy. A dosimetric correlation was found between the V150 and bladder wall doses for acute urinary toxicity. Future research should continue to standardize and validate dose constraints for prostate HDR monotherapy patients. (Source: Australasian Radiology)

Proposal for a gold standard for cosmetic evaluation after breast conserving therapy: Results from the St George and Wollongong Breast Boost trial
ConclusionIncorporating both BCCT.core assessment and patient self‐assessment could potentially provide the basis of a gold standard method of breast cosmetic evaluation. BCCT.core represents an easy, time efficient, reproducible, cost effective and reliable method, however, it lacks the functional and psychosocial elements of cosmesis that only patient self‐reported outcomes can provide. MRI measurements of the thoracic aorta and pulmonary artery
ConclusionNormal values for transverse diameters of the thoracic aorta and main pulmonary artery were established using 2D and 3D non‐contrast MR sequences in healthy adults. Overall both inter‐observer agreement, and agreement between 2D and 3D techniques was good. Mean diameter differences demonstrated at the aortic annulus, ascending aorta and aortic arch between LC and LSC although significant were less than one millimetre and unlikely to be important in clinical practice.
