Early repeat computed tomographic imaging in transferred trauma and neurosurgical patients: Incidence, indications and impact
ConclusionRepeat CT scans for patients already imaged prior to transfer were relatively common, occurring mostly for apparently valid clinical reasons. However, the additional radiation risk and financial cost of these repeat scans appeared on retrospective audit to be potentially avoidable in approximately one in five cases. Dosimetric differences between local failure and local controlled non ‐small cell lung cancer patients treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy: A matched‐pair study
ConclusionsWhile PB algorithms may overestimate tumour doses relative to MC algorithms, our matched‐pair study did not find dose differences between local failure and local controlled cases. (Source: Australasian Radiology)

Morphologically ‘invisible’ proinsulin – secreting adenoma detected by Ga‐68 Exendin‐4 (GLP‐1 Receptor) positron emission tomography/CT
Summary This case report of a young man suffering from recurring hypoglycaemia illustrates a rare condition of a neuroendocrine tumour, predominantly secreting proinsulin and invisible to conventional imaging approaches. Only a GLP‐1 receptor PET/CT using Exendin‐4 visualized the pancreatic lesion and enabled curative therapy, confirming the diagnostic value of this tracer for detection of neuroendocrine tumours. As only few publications on this topic are available, an overview of the available data is also given. The known cut‐off value of 60% for proinsulin level indicating malignancy is critically discussed. (Sour...

Utility of 18F ‐fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant gynaecological tumours
ConclusionsThe SUVmax value helps differentiate benign and malignant ovarian tumours, as well as uterine myomas and uterine sarcomas. (Source: Australasian Radiology)

CT ‐guided nephrostomy: Re‐inventing the wheel for the occasional interventionalist
Abstract Percutaneous nephrostomy insertion has, in recent times, become a subspecialised skill performed by an interventional trained Radiologist. However, this creates access issues, particularly in remote and regional medical centres. In this article, we describe a simple and effective method for computed tomography (CT)‐guided percutaneous nephrostomy insertion, utilising the CT interventional skills of the general radiologist. Efficacy of hypofractionated radiotherapy in patients with non ‐melanoma skin cancer: Results of a systematic review
Summary Radiation oncologists are increasingly tasked with the management of elderly patients with non‐melanoma skin cancer, unsuitable for surgical intervention due to inoperable lesions and/or poor performance status. In this cohort, hypofractionated radiotherapy, delivered either daily, alternative daily or once weekly is highly effective. A systematic literature search was conducted of PUBMED, MEDLINE and EMBASE databases using the algorithm (‘radiotherapy’ OR ‘radiation therapy’ OR ‘brachytherapy’) AND (‘hypofraction’ OR ‘hypofractionated’ OR ‘hypofractionation’) AND (‘skin neoplasms’ OR ...

Complementary role of MRI and positron emission tomography in diagnosing cerebral abscess in a patient with metastatic paraganglioma
We present the case of a patient with metastatic paraganglioma, who presented with headache and depressed conscious state. We had chronic tachycardia and low‐grade fevers due to increased catecholamine secretion, which limited his clinical assessment. The combination of novel positron emission tomography tracers and advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques was able to provide a confident preoperative diagnosis of a pyogenic intracranial abscess, which was not suspected clinically. This allowed appropriate therapy to be instituted until the patient's clinical state improved sufficiently for neurosurgery to be perfor...

Added value of second biopsy target in screen ‐detected widespread suspicious breast calcifications
ConclusionWhile a single target biopsy is sufficient to discriminate a benign vs. malignant diagnosis in most cases, in 14% there is added value in performing a second target biopsy. Biopsies performed prospectively are more likely to yield concordant results compared to post‐hoc second target biopsy cases, suggesting a single prospective biopsy may be sufficient when results are radiological‐pathological concordant; discordance still requires repeat sampling. Neglected areas on thorax computed tomography evaluation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Paravertebral muscles and para ‐aortic adipose tissue
ConclusionChronic obstructive pulmonary disease causes morphological changes in paravertebral muscles and para‐aortic adipose tissue. Degenerative changes in the paravertebral muscles occur secondary to systemic inflammation, comorbidity and drugs used in COPD. Factors such as insulin resistance and steroid use result in an increase in para‐aortic adipose tissue mass. (Source: Australasian Radiology)
