Posterior interosseous nerve syndrome after pneumatic hammer use: An uncommon condition
This case report presents a 27 year‐old manual worker with right wrist extension deficit after pneumatic hammer handling. MRI and electromyographic studies revealed partial compromise of the posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) proximal to the branch for the extensor digitorum communis. The patient enrolled a 6‐week rehabilitation period and recovered without remaing symptoms. PIN syndrome has mostly been associated with compressive neuropathies of the upper limb, but has seldom been reported in labor contexts. This case exemplifies an unusual presentation of PIN compression without a definite imaging diagnosis, where cl...

Allergic sinusitis and severe asthma caused by occupational exposure to locust bean gum: Case report
We describe the case history of a man who experienced work‐related symptoms 1 year after beginning work as a cheesemaker at a creamery, and whose respiratory symptoms progressively worsened over 16 years before an occupational cause of his asthma was identified. His initial discrete episodes of sinusitis and acute bronchitis evolved into persistent asthma of increasing severity with exacerbations requiring repeated emergency room treatment. The case described in our report emphasizes the importance of clinician diagnosis of OA, and subsequent removal from exposure, such that asthma severity does not progress to near‐fa...

Pleural malignant mesothelioma in dental laboratory technicians: A case series
We present 4 pleural mesotheliomas out of 5344 cases identified in Lombardy, Italy, in 2000‐2014. Three men had been working as dental laboratory technicians, with asbestos exposure for 10, 34, and 4 years, and one woman had been helping her husband for 30 years in manufacturing dental prostheses. The men described the use of asbestos as a lining material for casting rings, while the woman was not able to confirm this use. We confirm the association of malignant mesothelioma with dental technician work. Dental technicians suffering from mesothelioma should be questioned about past occupational asbestos exposure. Regional socioeconomic disparities in outcomes for workers with low back pain in the United States
ConclusionsRegional SE disparities in medical costs and LOD occur even when health insurance, health care availability, and indemnity benefits are similar. Results suggest opportunities to improve care and disability outcomes through targeted health care and disability interventions. (Source: American Journal of Industrial Medicine)

Self ‐audit of lockout/tagout in manufacturing workplaces: A pilot study
ConclusionsResults indicate that the LOTO self‐audit checklist would be useful in manufacturing firms’ efforts to assess and improve their LOTO programs. In addition, a reliable self‐audit instrument removes the need for external auditors to visit worksites, thereby expanding capacity for outreach and intervention while minimizing costs.
