Getting It
It can be difficult to understand the devastating impact cancer has on a person’s life unless you’ve been there. It can be hard to “get it” if you’ve never helped a loved one through treatment. Reliable information when you are faced with big life altering decisions, like cancer treatment, is imperative to making your personal plan to fight cancer. We shared Melissa’s story this week to show just how LIVESTRONG helps people face cancer. We invite you to read her story and share your own. This week, we launched a fundraising campaign where every dollar up to $250,000 will be generously matched by the Shine Foun...

A Young Adult Survivor Story: 15 Years in the Making
Nearly 72,000 young adults, ages 15-39, are diagnosed with cancer every year. April is the time when we highlight the unique challenges that young adult cancer survivors face like school, jobs, dating, getting married and having children. Over the years, LIVESTRONG has interviewed thousands of cancer survivors. Many of those survivors were filmed for our website including a woman named Kim Bergeron. Kim applied to become a LIVESTRONG Leader this year and we jumped at the chance to share her survivor story again 15 years in the making. Kim’s 2003 interview with LIVESTRONG LIVESTRONG: We interviewed you in the early 2...

#AllInForLIVESTRONG
My name is Jeri Mulder. Jeff and I are so excited and proud to announce a challenge that has been a long time in the making. Our family has dedicated $1,000,000 over the past 12 years to this organization and we just formally announced yesterday our pledge for an additional $1,000,000 to LIVESTRONG. You may wonder “Why LIVESTRONG? Why now?” Normally my husband Jeff does all the talking – he’s good at that – but today I want to share with you my story. I want you to understand why we have made the choice to go #AllInForLIVESTRONG. Many years ago, I had to make the difficult decision to leave my ex-husband after a ...

Team LIVESTRONG Spotlight: Jill
It’s the people in our lives that make life more interesting, fun and ultimately meaningful. I was reminded of this truth recently as a group of colleagues joined together for our annual spring picnic. The air was thick with the smell of a charcoal grill, the sun was shining and of course, we played good ol’ fashioned team-building games. The team favorite was the egg toss. You know, when two people toss an egg back and forth, all while stepping farther away from each other to create more distance between themselves. Who doesn’t love a game where someone has an egg break on them? We started with approximately 12 team...

Communities and survivorship: Increasing the number of YMCA associations whose facilities will offer our free LIVESTRONG at the Y cancer recovery program by 15 percent, a...

Our Favorite Team LIVESTRONG Memories
LIVESTRONG Foundation staffers do more than just work in the office from 9-5. This is not the kind of place where you clock in and out. Our staff members live and breathe the mission and they even fundraise and participate alongside you at events. It is difficult to express just how moving and fun these events can be for all involved unless you have actually participated. This week, we put out a request to staff to share their favorite Team LIVESTRONG memory. We got some really great replies! We hope you’ll share your favorite memories below and bring along a friend to join you this year. Thank you all for making these e...
