Frequency and factors associated with hepatitis C virus infection among patients with diabetes, Dammam, KSA
Conclusion and recommendations: The study confirmed a positive association between HCV and DM. The frequency of HCV among patients with diabetes was 1.9%. Predictors of HCV among DM patients were sharing articles, elevated transaminases, occupational exposure to blood or its products, disease duration more than 5 years, tattooing, blood transfusion, and hospitalization more than two times. We recommend screening for HCV among DM patients with elevated serum transaminases and those having the disease for more than 5 years and education of patients with diabetes as regards their high risk for HCV and how to avoid infection. ...

Environmental risk factors and the associated morbidity in a periurban area, Alexandria, Egypt
Conclusion and recommendations: Environmental RFs have an adverse impact on health within communities living in periurban areas. It is recommended that sanitation be improved and various outdoor environmental RFs be addressed in these underprivileged areas, as well as health education campaigns be organized aiming at raising the awareness of residents on indoor environmental RFs and ways to prevent them. Diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis using Ziehl–Neelsen stain or cold staining techniques?
Conclusion: Gabbett’s stain was more accurate in the diagnosis of PTB compared with both ZN and MCS, even though the results were not statistically significant. Conclusion and recommendations: There is an alarming increase in antibiotic resistance to the commonly used antibiotics. Continuous surveillance for antibiotic susceptibility is needed to ensure proper empirical therapy. Improvement of infection control practices, avoidance of irrational use of antibiotics, and revision of the protocols are mandatory in the prevention of neonatal sepsis. The objective of this study was to identify factors influencing job performance of nurses in public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from June 2010 to December 2010 in five public hospitals in Addis Ababa. Association between quality of life, menopausal status, and sociodemographic factors among middle-aged women in Iran
Conclusion and recommendations: Our findings confirm previous literature on the negative impact of menopausal symptoms on QoL, and show the interaction of some sociodemographic characteristics including age, number of children, household income, and BMI, on QoL. Prevalence of HIV among blood donors at Beni-Suef University Hospital Blood Bank, Egypt
Conclusion and recommendations: The prevalence of HIV was low (0.1%) among blood donors in Beni-Suef, Egypt, with no significant differences for age or sex. Evaluation of validity of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness guidelines in identifying edema of nutritional causes among Egyptian children
Conclusion and recommendations: Bipedal edema and low weight for age as part of the IMCI algorithm can identify edema because of nutritional etiology with 100% sensitivity, but with 37% specificity. Revisions need to be made to the IMCI guidelines published in 2010 by the Egyptian Ministry of Health in the light of the new WHO guidelines of 2014.
