Mental ill ‐health among adult patients at healthcare centres in Sweden: district nurses experiences
ConclusionWorking as a DN requires formal and informal competence when encountering patients with complex health needs. The findings revealed that the DNs could feel insecure regarding how to deal with patients with mental ill‐health due to lack of knowledge. Assessment of patients with mental ill‐health is time‐ and energy‐consuming and calls for improved teamwork at HCCs as well as effective collaboration with psychiatric specialist care and other care givers. The DNs responsibility to fulfil their work considering the increasing number of mental ill‐health among people that seeks help at HCCs needs to be ackno...

Physiological benefits to parents from undertaking skin ‐to‐skin contact with their neonate, in a neonatal intensive special care unit
There has been increased focus on the use of family‐centred care interventions, such as skin‐to‐skin contact (SSC) in Neonatal Intensive Special Care (NISC) Units over the past two decades. SSC between a parent and their neonate has previously shown to promote positive mental and emotional health in parents and assist in bonding and attachment between parent and neonate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect that SSC between parent and their neonate has on the parent's heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP). There has been a lack of prior research investigating the physiological responses from SSC ...

Healthcare professionals ’ work engagement in Finnish university hospitals
ConclusionsWork engagement among healthcare professionals in Finnish university hospitals is high. High work engagement might be explained by suitable job resources and challenges, as well as opportunities provided by a frontline care environment. Attention should especially be paid to meeting the needs of young people entering the workforce to strengthen their dedication and absorption. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences)

Compassion for self and others as key aspects of well ‐being in changing times
Compassion has been put forth as a core concept in caring science, although there has also been a debate over whether it is a nonprofessional sentiment or not. In this theoretical article, I reflect on compassion not only for others but also for oneself as being important for patients’ as well as professionals’ well‐being. My reflections on compassion as being essential in caring are grounded not only in caring science but also in research from other disciplines, as a means of exploring why we need compassion in caring from different perspectives. My conclusion is that in changing times, where patients as well as car...
