Protocol-based follow-up program for heart failure patients: Impact on prognosis and quality of life
ConclusionA protocol-based follow-up program for patients with heart failure led to a significant reduction in readmission and mortality rates, and was associated with better quality of life.

Myocardial deformation measures by cardiac magnetic resonance tissue tracking in myocarditis: Relationship with systolic function and myocardial damage
ConclusionDeformation parameters are an objective method for quantification of myocardial function in myocarditis. They correlate with LVEF, extent of WMA and degree of myocardial damage. Further studies are needed to assess their incremental beneficial value for the diagnosis and risk stratification of myocarditis.

The impact of diastolic dysfunction as a predictor of cardiovascular events: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsAlthough the definitions found in the literature differ, the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction is associated with a 3.53-fold increased risk of cardiovascular events or death. This finding highlights the importance of developing easily applicable and consensual diagnostic criteria, as well as fostering research on effective treatment strategies when diastolic dysfunction is identified in the subclinical stage.

Adjuvant antithrombotic therapy in ST-elevation myocardial infarction: Contemporaneous Portuguese cross-sectional data
ConclusionsIn 2016, according to data from these national registries, almost all patients with STEMI were treated with aspirin and 76% with dual antiplatelet agents, mostly clopidogrel. GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors were used in few patients, and UFH was the most prevalent parenteral anticoagulant drug.

Assessment with intracoronary pressure and flow guidewire, at baseline and after intracoronary adenosine infusion, in a patient with Takotsubo syndrome
We present the case of a patient with Takotsubo syndrome assessed by intracoronary flow and pressure guidewire, showing elevation of intracoronary pressures at the level of the anterior descending artery, and thus demonstrating a new therapeutic target in a still little understood etiopathogenic entity. The results of this test have never been previously reported in Takotsubo patients.
