RUBI parent training as a group intervention for children with autism: A community pilot study
ConclusionsThe current findings provide initial support for the delivery of the RUBI Parent Training in a group of parents. This could provide a cost-effective alternative for the treatment of problem behavior in children with ASD. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Eyewitness identification in child witnesses on the autism spectrum
ConclusionsThese preliminary findings suggest that group differences between autistic and TD children may not always emerge on an ecologically valid, real world eyewitness identification lineup task, despite autistic children showing poorer performance on a standardized face memory task. However, as identification performance in both groups was low, it remains important for future research to identify how to scaffold eyewitness identification performance in both children with and without an autism diagnosis. Wearables and mobile technologies in Autism Spectrum Disorder interventions: A systematic literature review
ConclusionsThe findings support the notion that this is a very promising sector which is expected to undergo an important increase in the coming years. There is a great need for highly customizable solutions. In parallel, researchers should focus on the importance of developing applications for the real world and not only for controlled environments. Further studies employing artificial intelligence and affective computing are needed to support both diagnosis and therapeutic interventions as well. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Community-based service use in preschool children with autism spectrum disorder and associations with insurance status
ConclusionMany preschool-aged children do not receive community-based services, with receipt of some service types associated with insurance type. Increasing access and availability for evidence-based service, especially for beneficiaries of public insurance, may improve service use and outcomes. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Shifting visual attention to social and non-social stimuli in Autism Spectrum Disorders
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that ASD is characterized by general difficulties in attentional control that affect disengaging, though the strength of these effects depends on children’s inherent interest in the peripheral stimulus. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

The association between parenting behaviours of mothers of adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and adolescent and mother characteristics
ConclusionsThis study suggests that the framework of parenting behaviours in the general literature is applicable to parents of children with ASD. Furthermore, associations between parenting behaviours and adolescent characteristics were rather modest in the ASD group. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Exploring autistic traits in adults with chronic depression: A clinical study
ConclusionsAbout half of the chronically depressed patients showed elevated autistic or autism-like traits. It remained unclear whether this was due to the state of chronic depression or a kind of premorbid autistic personality trait. The findings illustrate the need for further research to clarify the possible role of autistic traits in the development of chronic depression. Furthermore, they reveal that it might be clinically useful to focus on autism-like social impairments in therapy for chronic depression. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

A pilot study to identify autism related traits in spontaneous facial actions using computer vision
ConclusionOur generalized framework may be used to quantify psychophysical traits in individuals with ASD and replicate in similar studies that require quantitative measurements of behavioral responses. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Relationship of family history conditions and early signs of autism spectrum disorder in low and high-risk infants
ConclusionsThe results suggest that family history conditions may play an important role in screening infants not yet diagnosed with ASD and reveal etiological pathways. (Source: Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders)

Criterion-related validity of the PDDBI: Comparison with the ADOS-2
This study examined criterion related validity of the PDDBI through comparison with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2) in 104 children ages 2–11 years. A positive relationship between the PDDBI Autism Composite and all ADOS-2 scores, as well as some subscale correlations, supported convergent validity of the PDDBI as a measure of ASD symptomatology. Additionally, a significant negative relationship between PDDBI adaptive subscales and ADOS-2 scores reinforced divergent validity. These results add to the literature on the validity of the PDDBI as a measure of ASD symptoms. (Source: Research...

Atypical eating behaviors in children and adolescents with autism, ADHD, other disorders, and typical development
Conclusions: The number and types of atypical eating behaviors found only in children with autism and not in children with other disorders or typical development should alert clinicians to the possibility of autism and the need to evaluate for autism in order to facilitate early identification and access to evidence-based treatment.
